  • Scanguage or Techstream?

I'm considering buying one of these units and would like more information about them. Can anybody tell me:
    1. Which is better based on function, cost, ease of use, etc? Or are there other ones I haven't heard about?
    2. What will either of these guages measure? What do people find most useful? I have a very basic mechanical knowledge and mostly get professionals to work on my 2007 1kd-ftv but what I would like to be able to do is monitor my injector readings as they get older (done ~120k now) so as to get early notice of any problems. Also do they measure the MAF performance and is this a good indicator as to whether the EGR needs cleaning out?
    3. How do they plug in. It seems like some people have them permanently attached?
Any additional information on the subject would be welcome, thanks.
    Cheers
    Bryan

Techstream you need a laptop and is used for indepth technical analysis (graphs and values) for every sensor on the car, view trouble codes and clear, scanguage on the other hand can be left plugged in and will give you basic trip info while your driving (Fuel consumption etc) you can even clear codes but is in no way near as in depth with viewing technical sensor data.

if you want sensor readouts while your driving but not too technical, you can get those plug in OBDII connectors that bluetooth / wifi to your phone with an App (I think the App is called "Torque")
For every part broken comes the great opportunity to upgrade, enhance and improve. Just dont tell the other half how much its going to cost.

I’ve been trying to read up about this techstream, and from what I’ve read it’s only available on a laptop, is that correct. I don’t have a computer or laptop only my iPad. So I’ve purchased one of the wifi OBD2 adaptors, the ELM327.

so can anyone recommend what is the best app to use, free or paid.

Yes Techstream is a Windows program, it's built for the Toyota service departments. So you would need to find a cheap Windows laptop on Gumtree/Facebook etc, doesnt have to be flash something even running Windows XP with 2 GB of RAM with a USB will suffice.

As for OBD2 app Torque Pro is the most popular on Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...orque&hl=en_AU , but apparently on the Mac iit's not so good.
