  • Air Con Electrical Issue

    Hi,
i am a frequent reader but I don't contribute due to not really knowing enough to answer many of the questions asked.

i have a 2006 Petrol VX Prado. The model with climate control. No issues ever so this is the first.

i now have a persistent clicking noise that sounds like a relay flipping back and forth. If I change "mode" , ie the direction of the airflow this can change the rate or frequency of the " relay" type noise. The AC is still working fine but the noise is persistent.

A few have had a look and no one seems to know what it is, many are prepared to have a look at an hour,y rate with no guarantees so I thought I'd ask here first before before I part with any funds.

thanks in advance, hopefully someone on here knows what I am talking about or has seen this before.

    cheers

Is the compressor engaging and disengaging at the same rate?

No. The compressor is working as usual.

it appears to be something to do with the control of the flaps that direct the air flow to different vents.

if you change from one area of air flow to another it an settle down momentarily or the rate of change of the "clicking" noise can change,

Sounds like one of the servos motors might be faulty, you'll have to start pulling covers off and try and localise it.

Before you do anything try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, amazing at times what turning off the power can fix!

If you change the temperature to either extreme, it will also quiten the noise.

Thanks Leigh, I disconnected the battery for two weeks when we went on holiday and it came back worse than ever.

Hi Amts, I'll try that, any science behind your suggestion?

It's the mixer flap that tries to mix warm and cool air to get to your set temp. Sometimes it will happen, sometimes it won't. It depends on the ambient temp and your set temp.
