  • New Head Unit and Reverse Camera

    Hi All,

My factory head unit in my 2005 Grande decided to give up the ghost a month or so ago, so I have bit the bullet and bought a new head unit and reverse camera. After much researching and reading all the forums I ended up going with a Sony XAV-AX205DB with a Pioneer reverse camera. Bought the fascia surrounds and wiring harness connectors while I was at it. Automotive Superstore had the best deals going at the time. I went with this particular unit as it has a CD and DVD slot (need the CD for the kids) and it also has an 'old school' volume knob which I like, and the look of the unit is not blingy and should look relatively stock in the Prado. It also has Apple Carplay which will be good for Maps etc.

Dropped the Prado off at a local auto electrician this morning so will post some pics and an update on what I think of the set up when I get my pride and joy back.

    Cheers,

    Hi All,

Update on the head unit, it is fantastic and a massive upgrade on the stock item. Apple car play is a great feature with easy hands free calling, google maps, reading texts or dictating texts with siri. I got the camera mounted on the very end of the numberplate light housing and works relatively well, just need to do a minor adjustment so that I can see the end of the tow ball which would make reversing up to trailers a whole lot easier. It does catch the side of the spare wheel in the vision and because the camera is slightly offset to center it takes a little bit of getting used to. Otherwise the picture quality is great and the night vision is pretty good as well.

Will try and post some pics when i get a chance.

          Hi,
I just installed Sony XAV-AX3000 in my Prado 120 series GXL. I used the Aerpro ATB2 Toyota Left and Right Bracket (link https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au...toyota-subaru/). However, I found that there is a gap left in the bottom of the unit. Just curious whether you had the perfect fit?
If so what's the facia you used?

Apologies all for the lack of response, I tend to not use technology very much. Will attempt to post a pic now of the head unit. I have been very happy with it, just had 1 issue where the reverse camera cable failed and had to get that replaced. Click image for larger version
