Morning all,
I’ve got a 2004 petrol prado with a dual battery set up I put in a few years ago. Got a Redarc isolator and also running the alternator booster from Leigh. I’ve recently bought a trailer for camping to store all our crap and am looking to move the fridge from the back of the car into a drawbar toolbox.
I’ve got power running to a 12v connector in the back I currently use for the fridge, so was going to extend this cable to an Anderson connector. Going to purchase a second battery for the trailer to install in the toolbox. I also currently have 160w solar with a MPPT regulator which I’ve used to charge the car battery when camping. The MPPT is on the back of the panels.
It seems that you can spend a lot of $ on staff I’m not sure I need. So my questions are:
- Do I need a dc dc charger in the trailer? I’m running 8ga cable currently.
- I’m assuming I don’t need another battery isolator in the trailer, as when the trailer is coupled up and the Anderson plug connected the two batteries will equalise in voltage.
- Do I need a battery box or can I just mount the trailer battery straight in the toolbox.
- When I connect the solar to the battery in the trailer then this will also reverse charge the main dual battery as well (althogh will be a voltage drop through cable).
- The fridge already had low voltage cut out, so I don’t need this standalone option.
Anything else I should consider?
Cheers,
Tom
