  • Stereo wiring help!

    Hi Guys,

Just pulled out a cheap Chinese head unit and putting a pioneer in. The plugs which appear factory don't seem top match, figure I'm missing something obvious? Any advice?!

Red and Black are Aerpro plugs APP9PI08 for steering wheel controls, and match the form factor of the Pioneer Plugs in the box. These are a larger pin.

The Prado plugs are smaller pins.

    What am I missing?!

    Cheers!

Righto, solved that one, for anyone else who is interested my problem was the Aeropro didn't match the Toyota, it only converted between pioneer and ISO.. I bought another kit from a local JB hi fi and it goes from the Toyota plugs to Pioneer direct.. I checked the Aeropro website when buying but must have missed I needed two assemblies from them.

Now I just need to work out the non standard longer wires that are separate to the ISO plug on the pioneer harness, I suspect a couple of wires will be soldered/heat shrunk but most go through the plugs. It won't turn on as yet, I suspect it needs all of the cables terminated - will chase up the wiring diagrams for both later as I have a Prado in pieces at present

OK, so I worked out the wires from threads on here, ended up lifting the center console part and tapping into park brake and reverse cable there. I powered up my Pioneer unit and listened to radio/bluetooth well (the stock speakers are much better with this unit powering them!).

Then it went bad when I tried to add the reverse camera.. I clipped on a reverse camera lead into 12v (quick splice connector for black and red cables from the loom and RCA into camera plug on head unit) and put the car on accessories and now I can't power up the Pioneer at all? I also removed the reverse camera but still can't power it up..

      Install Information
      • Head unit Pioneer AVH-Z5100DAB
      • Car Toyota Prado 2007 (120 series).
      • Stinger Australia loom to connect Toyota to Pioneer (CP2-TOY23)
      • Reverse Camera is a Pioneer RCAMAVIC (12v black red wires for power and an RCA for data)

      Trouble Shooting so far..
      • I put a multi meter on the red and black cables and when on accessories (or car running) I am getting 12v to the unit wiring loom at back of Pioneer ok
      • Head unit fuse is checked and and its ok
      • I tried the reset button on the Pioneer (no change)
      • I put the old head unit back on (minus reverse camera) and it doesn't power up either

      Any tips for trouble shooting??

              green is hand brake
              purple is speed sensor
              red/black is reverse camera

btw toyota factory reverse cameras run at 6v not 12v which is supply by the factory head units

Looks like I can't connect it to the ground, Pioneer is onto that trick with the newer units..

just ground it to the body of your car,
or it just disable some of the functions of the head unit untill the hand brake is engaged

would have been plug into the factory headunit so it should have been there somewhere
