dds , thanks for your time on the phone today.; PM me your paypal or acc/bsb and I'll shout you some beers.

For anyone else interested, basically I needed to set the Pioneer head unit to let it know there was a camera..

Testing involved testing the camera with a tv in the car to prove it was ok, then check the reverse wire was working with multi meter to see it engaged.. you can test the reverse wire in the head unit without the camera also, just turn the reverse camera on, turn on the guiding lines and they come up even if the camera isn't plugged in when going into reverse..

Also , for anyone out there interested here are some further notes:

Steering Wheel Controls: this was easy with the wiring harness I got from jb hi fi ,a 'Stinger Australia' model CP2-TOY23. This kit includes the standard stereo wiring harness to go from Toyota Prado to standard plugs, then I used the standard plugs to Pioneer which came with the unit.. for steering controls the kit includes a little box which is pretty advanced (programmable or dip switches). My steering wheel only has volume up/down, track up/down and mode, I'm sure you can do a lot inputs more with this unit. To install you plug the box into your pc via usb and run their app which sets the inputs/outputs for you based on the standard wiring harness they provide to match your car. Then plug it into the car on the wiring harness plug they include. Only thing I had to change from standard (I had to choose Landrcuiser, no Landcruiser Prado option in their software..) was the that track up went down and vice versa.. so a quick test and re-program sorted that and I have wheel controls working perfectly which is nice after not having them since getting the car recently.

Microphone: I set the microphone next to the wheel on a spare button slot and made some calls, it's neat and picks up the drivers voice well here and also is on the passenger side so if your passenger wants to speak it'll work a little better also.

USB Input: I ran the usb cable into the centre console so I can leave my phone in there, charging and on Apple Car Play.

Apple Car Play: On a side note the Apple car play in the Pioneer is great, voice controls work well. For me this a real benefit so I can use Google maps, messaging and music from the iPhone - also support Android Auto when I get sick of being forced to doing things Apples way . I'll throw some photos up from my phone, the switch below it is for a light bar (Stedi) which I had put on earlier but not ran the internal switch as I knew for this project I would have the plastics off.
