  • 2.8L DPF Regen tracking

    Hey All,
    I just wanted to start a post to track DPF Regen on the new 2.8 Diesel.
    Toyota is telling me that it is normal, but I think mine is happening way too often, so far it has done a regen at least 7 times in 4400km :evil:

    I would be interested to see if anyone else is seeing the same, or if there is something wrong with mine !!
    I have started to track the date and km's when i notice that it happens (it revs to 1200 rpm)

    09-Oct-15
    10-Oct-15
    19-Oct-15
    27-Oct-15 - 3926 km - let it complete DPF burn (return to normal idle 700rpm)
    30-Oct-15 - 4386 km - let it complete DPF burn
    1-Nov-15 - 4696 km - engine turned off during DPF burn
    2-Nov-15 - 4700 km - let it complete DPF burn
    2-Nov-15 - 4704 km - let it complete DPF burn
    6-Nov-15 - 4956 km - let it complete DPF burn
    7-Nov-15 - 4966 km - let it complete DPF burn
    9-Nov-15 - 5241 km - let it complete DPF burn

    I would imagine that the frequency depends on the type of driving; short or long trips, stop/start or continuous and slow /fast.

      I agree but mine is a daily drive with plenty of short runs (<50kms) and I haven't noticed this yet.

        Yeah so mine is daily 120km drive (return trip) with about 60% freeway and I am averaging about 45 - 55 km/h for the trip.
        I have also just completed a return trip to QLD.

        This is my first diesel, but i have mates that do the same kind of driving that i do and they say they have not had the regen kick in.

        I was thinking that maybe I have a faulty sensor, and it is just reporting that it needs to regen all the time, so was interested to see if others could post their trip types and if they have noticed the regen happening

          Manual or Auto ? When exactly does this jump in revs occur, whilst moving or stopped in traffic? Not saying you're wrong but are you 100% sure its not the aircon

            Hey Diesel69,
            It is a manual, and A/C is def not on ;-)
            It is when idling, it goes from the standard of 700 rpm to 1200 rpm
            At first i thought i may have bumped the Idle Up button
            After 3 trips to Toyota the Service Manager finally told me that it is the DPF Regen, but i just think that it should not run this often.

              I would have to agree with you that it shouldn't run that often and without knowing your driving style all I can suggest is try "driving it like you stole it" as much as possible and see if it still does it so regularly

                hahahahahah Diesel69 .... I should give it to my wife for a bit then.
                she told me that there was something wrong with the tyres as they squeal when she goes through the round-about ... I told her to slow down

                    Don't the new 2.8's have a regen light or gauge/display on the dash to indicate when it either needs to do an auto burn or requre a manual burn? Would have thought Toyota would have a similar user interface to Hino's?

                      Adrian, No light comes up on the dash when it revs to 1200, in the manual they do refer to one, but nothing happens on mine.

                      Does anyone know if the ECU would hold logs of when a burn is done that the service dept. would be able to look at ??

                        I beleive but can't personally confirm the toyota interface only illuminates the DPF light when there is a problem such as requiring a manual or forced burn. Imagine how many soccer mums would be coming in saying this weird light keeps coming up on my dash......
