  • New LED driving lights, now spotties dont work

    Ah joy,
new Stedi LED upgraded H4 driving lights, works really well
mmmm, spotties dont work? ( have run without fault for years, and when i put the old globes back it still works)
Thought i had bumped something, no, after a while of looking and testing figured out the 12v rail for the high beam is being pulled down.
Rang Stedi, yes, due to lights being negatively switched i now need to buy a $60 ‘interface’ due to the electronics in the H4 led driver module
    so, question
Anyone had the same issue and figured out a resistor value or wiring trick for this?
i have seen with older cars running new LEDs on their trailer you can wire in resistors to the standard electrical circuit sees the same resistive load on the circuit, hopefully there is something out there for my headlights
Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers

I had this same problem when i did a HID projector retrofit to my 120 headlights.
Where did get this $60 figure from? i ended up buying a canbus module off stedi and this fixed it.
With my car it was HID so i swapped the pos and neg pins around. Not sure of your LED kit.
But for $30 i would sure give it a go.

Swapping pins is probably doing the same as this circuit, courtesy of Peter Atlas.
90 owners have been doing this forever, more reliable than a canbus module or ballast resistor.
Your high beam dash light won’t work though.
Have to blind not to realise high beam is on if your driving lights come on with high beam.

Iv tried swapping pins and using the relay mod above. But that came to a different problem.
When i flick high beams on the stalk and then flick it off. The spot lights wont turn off unless i switched the headlights off all together.

          Hi,
Stedi website states $60 for the module.
Dont want to induce any other issues, so might just fork the $60 and be done with it.
appreciate the feedback and comment, thank you

Thanks for the extra prompt, looked deeper at the link and yes it does talk about negatively switched.

when i spoke with support about a week ago, the only option was the $60. My Prado is 2003 and there is no Canbus
back on the phone tomorrow , cheers

My 120 also doesnt have canbus. It also states it works for negatively switched cars

LED lights give extremely intense light with very little load on the car's electrical system.

I think they are just trying to get more money as they can from you, and I don't remember if they asked to pay the additional bill for the *interface*. Maybe they just designed new bulbs that require a new interface to drain their customers. In any case, I recommend you replace the lighting appliances with simpler models from another manufacturer. Try to search on google for vont brand bulbs. They sell many different lighting appliances, including the wifi light bulb models. If you decide to order from them, let me know I will share some free delivery coupons with you.
