  • Head Unit Compatibility

I want to replace the stock head unit in my 2005 GXL 1GR-FE with a Toyota OEM model for the bluetooth and reverse camera. I've got a good idea about the process and different parts required from the forum, but am wondering how I can know whether a specific head unit is compatible with the car?

The OEM head units commonly mentioned are the PZQ60-00525 and PZQ60-00535, however Ebay has a bunch of others for sale that look exactly the same: x-00523, x-00526, x-00527, x-00537. I like the idea of getting the latest model possible, but how will I know if it'll fit in the car? Is there an official reference guide? I've got the service manual, will the electrical diagrams in there tell me?

    Thanks

I contacted my local Toyota dealer and they said that they aren't able to determine if an OEM headunit is compatible with a specific model. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi, why not consider a quality aftermarket android auto/ apple carplay headunit? I use a kenwood unit and it's great and it would be much cheaper than buying a OEM headunit from Toyota

Do you know what model Kenwood you have? I'll have another look, but liked that the OEM units are more plug-and-play.

I have the DDX919WS and also a DMX820WS in the other car.

The DDX919WS has 2 USB inputs and wireless android auto / apple carplay. The DMX820WS only has one USB and no wireless option.

If you want a true plug and play experience you could buy from these guys https://carboncarsystems.com.au/
They have a few videos on how to install yourself, you can even search them in youtube to see the install videos.

They supply a true plug and play wiring harness that they make themselves if you buy from them.
Both models above are Toyota specific (200mm wide) which fits the Toyotas perfectly.
