Hi all, finally getting a chance to look at the issue.

Removed bumper for easier access to wires and everything seems fine so far. Did a continuity check on the 7 pin electrics and found the issue I think.

In Toyotas instructions (PZ457-J9564-00) the pin layout on page 7/14 is:

    1
    2 6
    7
    3 5
    4

However, on the car, the cover to the 7 pin connecter is reversed a little (its not upside down), so:

    1
    6 2
    7
    5 3
    4

When checking the continuity, it's wire as the plug cap states, NOT how Toyotas instructions state pin their instructions.

SO... I think that when the car lights are turned on it sends a signal as though I'm pressing the brakes which will stop cruise control working.

Actually, maybe talking shite there...I believe the wiring at the 7 pin is the view from the other side in the manual. The cap fitted is still wrong, but the wiring seems ok there.
Have found something which I think is the only other problem... there’s a wiring block with wires going nowhere need to study diagram more to confirm this though. Will post photos when I reduced the size below 2mb.

Turbo JAM that Toyota diagram is not of a standard 7-pin Australian trailer socket/plug. For a start, the cable in the Toyota diagram above uses 8 wires.

The yellow and green wire match the Australian standard (Left and Right indicators respectively). Red is for Stop Lamp (tick). White in earth/chassis/0v return leg (tick).

I don't know what they're trying to say for the Black, Blue and Brown wires - their symbols and numbering do not make any sense to me. Edit: and the Australian Standard does not have a grey wire unless you are using a plug with a LOT more pins (which is uncommon here in Oz).

If your Prado has a 7-wire cable, refer to the Narva Website - very helpful.

Do you have a brake controller fitted? Ive seen some strange stuff happening to Canbus with brake controllers fitted. Fitting a diode in the brake input has sorted them. One 79 series would shut down the engine with a trailer plugged in and brakes applied! Diode sorted it.

            Thanks for the replies.
GeeWhizz... the way I understand it is... while position 2 and 2a are two wires for the fog lights, they are connected to the same Pin 2 on the trailer hookup. So that's why it's 7 pin there.
My Prado is a Spanish market model - I believe all Euro zone cars have this trailer wire setup as a default unless specced for more or the 13 pin options.

Piggy... don't want to sound stupid but, what's a brake controller? If you're asking if there's a specific relay or extra electrical box installed with the trailer wiring then, no. It's really simple plug and play stuff (going by the instructions).

I've going over the instructions I have step by step and every thing is hooked up correctly as far as I can tell. With only one questionable plug...
I've taken photos and labelled up everything as best I can.
There is a plug, labelled "F" with a corresponding "Loop" plug fitting to link 7 pin electrics back to car and then the fog lights - this is the area which I can't work out.
There is a white ground wire with nothing to connect to and an apparent spare/unused "loop". This doesn't make sense to me, but not sure where the Ground/Loops wires should go?

            Have a look at the pictures if you're bored....maybe you'll see something I can't?

Aha! There lies a problem. Almost all members of the Pradopoint forum are in Australia and are unfamiliar with European trailer wiring standards.

A brake controller is required (in Australia again) when towing a trailer that has a mass of over 750kg. All trailers over 750kg registered in Australia must be fitted with their own brake system. Commonly, these are electrically operated via a brake controller. The controller typically is triggered when the tow vehicle's brakes are applied, with braking force proportionate to the deceleration rate of the vehicle. In the case of Australian trailer wiring, the Blue wire is used to proportionately apply the trailer's brakes.
