    Has anyone had any luck in installing a off the shelf thermo? Like an ebay one?

      I just fitted a condenser fan to mine, $50 from a wrecker online. All the wiring is there ready to go you just need to fit the relay and bridge out the switch plug for the dual ac pressure switch. The earth for the relay mentioned in this thread is there in the fuse box but it goes to earth through that plug.

      Take the protective cap off this plug in front of the radiator;

      Fit a short link between these pins (the blue and white/black wires) - I used a piece of stainless lock wire but a paperclip will do and refit the cap;

      Fit one of these relays to the cds fan relay spot in the fusebox;

      Makes a significant difference to the ac.

      Cheers

          Looking to add the fan on to my 2003 GXL. I've picked up the fan and relay from the wreckers. As far as joining the two wires on the dual zone pressure switch, the cover on mine is gone, so I was going to cut the wires up the loom further to join it. Getting a cover would be neater, however I don't like my chances of finding one at all.

            Yep just cut the plug off and join the wires, I would solder and use heat shrink, but that's just me..

              Thanks mate, will definitely solder and heat shrink it, because it sits at the front where it's more susceptible to water etc.

                Job done. Picked up a fan and relay from the wreckers and fitted it up. Joined the wires as Adrian stated above and works fine.
                The Prado already had a relay in the CDS spot on the fuse box, however it needed to be changed to the blue coloured one. The original relay I am assuming is just for the magnetic clutch as the fan would not come on with the original relay in place
