Injector seal leak=Oil Pickup block=engine failure D4D: Campaign now on in Europe

Reading again issues with Injector seal leaks.

      Guys, better check this link:

      Injector seal leak=Oil Pickup block=engine failure D4D

Toyota campaign 1KET-015 D4D including Hilux

      http://www.toyota-tech.eu/toms_cabs/EN/1KET-015.pdf

      http://www.toyota-tech.eu/tomscabs.aspx

Reading many posts regarding D4D Injector Seal Washer leaks, Leading to Combustion leakage into Lubrication system, Oil Contamination, Oil Pickup Strainer blockage, Engine Oil starvation and ultimate engine failure, this one covers our build dats also and covers common issues with our own D4D Powered vehicles

Many D4D owners downunder should be aware that Toyota NZ recommends Injector seals & o-rings be replaced at 45,000 KLM intervals, many similar issues have been reported in NZ also.

Looks like MR T is doing the right thing OS with its customers in dealing with this and related problems on Hilux & Prado elsewhere

Look forward to a similar response with loyal customers in Australia & New Zealand.

Hi, I thought this may be relevent to this thread also:

Read with interest the Melb. Herald sun Article Today re Hilux D4D problems. Same engine as Prado right?

          Tough but breakable

          http://www.heraldsun.com.au/ipad/ute...-1226351998636

This relates to threads & key words:

          Injector seal leak=oil pickup block=engine failure D4D

Perhaps we can start a new thread on this issue.

the recall mentioned in the UK is no doubt related to the same link:

          http://www.toyota-tech.eu/toms_cabs/EN/1KET-015.pdf

Hope that dealerships in OZ can start to assist owners with simple checks before this issue allows their engines to prematurely self destruct.

Update on my D4D injector issues, as stated earlier car was taken to Diesiel specialists in Matherson Street Virginia QLD late Monday afternoon forTuesday am injector replacement, glow plug test and replacement if required, Inlet manifold carbon cleanout etc, and (not my choice but part of the job ) new fuel lines as well. Got the call today stating that car will be required for an extra day as they had trouble removing one of the injectors due to seal leak. When i spoke to Steve the owner he said that they looked like the original injectors as they had copper washers still fitted and that was why the seal had leaked. Apparently they had to make a puller to remove the stuck injector. Inlet manifold was shitty as expected but no more that others they had cleaned so after 180,000 ks you could say that was a reasonable run for the original injectors. Sounds like it was a good move (albeit costly) on my part to get the injectors replaced as it appears car was due to fail in the near future. As soon as i get the car back i will drop the sump and check the oil pickup screen before hooking up the caravan and heading away. Diesel Specialists asked me if the ECU had been reflashed? i don't know and how can i tell as apparently car will need to go to toyota for this. Can anyone else undertake the ECU reflashing??.
I will keep the thread updated once i get the car back and i can compare the engine performance power wise and economy wise when towing my caravan.

            cheers to all.

Hi Fredrick, Oh boy..you do sound like a candidate for a Oil Pickup Screen blockage.

You don't have to drop the sump to do a screen check, Only need to drop the sump if a clean is required.

Go to thread called "Injector Oil Seals" by Foxy49 This will tell you all about this issue and how to check.

Please check that Screen & tell us all about it...I hope this one is clear, but don't take the chance, 180,000KLm is right in the slot for a siezed motor if you had this problem.

Gidday landuser, and thanks for the guidance etc regarding the sludge buildup on the oil pickup screen, as i stated my first job once i get the car back is to drain the oil and check the screen. As it has been pointed out on earlier posts Aldi have a small camera for sale which should be suitable to poke up through the bung hole to view the screen. I am planning on visiting Aldi in the morning when the camera is on sale to check out the size, at $99.00 it may well be good insurance to inspect the screen every oil change especially in my case as i would assume that some of the gung removed from the engine during the injector change and inlet system cleanout could end up in the oil galleries then eventually into the sump and possibly clogging up the screen.
Once again thanks to all that have contributed to the thread.

Just a quick note, is there anyway to tell if the ECU has been recently reflashed?? as i will need to get this done if it has not already been done before.

                    Thanks

Pretty sure the only way to tell is if Toyota plug the IT in and see what software is on there.

Gidday. Strange thing happened to me yesterday, i went into bursons in virginia (Brisbane) in readiness just in case i needed to drop the sump after my oil pickup screen inspection and asked for a sump gasket for the 1kd D4D and the dude behind the counter peered into the computer for a few minutes then said" they do not have one just use gasket builder" Say what, every vehicle i have worked on over 45 odd years has had a sump pan gasket of some description, was he correct or did he sell me a dummy??

Wazza, just make sure you get back to me on those readings, the range on those injectors. As long as you do the job, I will guide you through it. Just make sure you have some beer there, and not that xxxx crap.

PS, Good idea to change the rocker seals while you have the injectors out and easier access. There is a bit of heat that is produced in that space, good insurance policy to change them.

Gidday, I picked the car up Thursday lunchtime after handing over $3900.00 to cover new injectors, glow plugs, fuel lines, associated gaskets plus the inlet manifold clean out so reasonably happy with that.
Inlet system was reasonably clean I was told and really a waste of time and money as it was a prick to do.
After refueling I took the car home and dropped the oil into a clean pan and after letting the oil settle for 30 minutes carefully poured the oil out and inspected for any carbon lumps etc. We found some smallish ( the size of a pin head) and these could be squeezed out in my fingers so really soft" and based on this replaced the filter and the replaced the oil with fresh.
As the aldi special on the inspection camera did not start until today I did not undertake the screen inspection but plan to undertake on TUesday once back in Brisbane.
We left Brissie at 3am Friday and drove to Sydney and plan to drive to Crookwell in the morning then tow a tandem axle car trailer and car back to Sydney on Monday/ Tuesday.
Car runs ok I guess and likely needs the ECU reflashed which may help the performance.
Drove 1006ks and used 108 liters of fuel so economy is the same as before the new injectors. I am looking forward to an improvement after reflash.
