Why would you bother fitting a catch can on a 1KZ? Just block the EGR and the problem's solved..

In reality, it would only be a roadworthy fail if you removed the EGR valve or other obvious component. No one in compliance enforcement has the time or inclination to go stripping an engine apart to see if it has been modified with regards to EGR and a gas analyser will not pick up an increase in oxides of Nitrogen. It is also not "illegal" to modify an engine in any way, if an engine or vehicle were to be found to be modified, the owner would be required to reinstate the emissions controls back to a state that the vehicle would have been in to be type approved or compliant with ADRs.

            IMHO...

Toyota service boys can see easily if an EGR is blocked, shows up on their scanners, they don't often care however. A catch can and an EGR block do completely different things. Having both has its benefits in multiple ways.

Interested in your thoughts on benefits of both? I’m not a mechanic. Genuinely curious.
