  • Slow acceleration 1KZ

    Hi all, i desperately need help trying to diagnose a problem with my prado 1kz-te, it is slow on acceleration (lack of power) can be noticeable going up hills it is like if its not delivering enough fuel.

    Error code 14 is displaying "14 = Timing control signal (crankshaft angle 7 deg or more out from target)"

    have no idea what exactly that means, i have been trying to find where the problem relies yet im not sure where to look at.

    I dont want to start replacing things and wasting money without being sure .

    so far i have:

    -Replaced fuel filter.
    -Checked relays / fuses.

    Is the turbo spooling up
    04 grande, bilstein A712 &A713 kings spring , 3 inch exhaust chip it chip, XGT lightforce, 1 x lightbar, Sov Bar, Tigerz11 Grande winch with rope, Oricom UHF.

      G'day Ivan, you will probably have the same knowledgeable people reading your post here as on the other Prado site. That thread over there has had a couple of people trying to do remote diagnostics to assist you, and if you start another thread here you will probably end up in the same place with the same advice you have had already. 'Roo's last post was about replacing the timing control valve, did you try that? Did you clean the gauze filters on the injector pump? I noticed the other thread went quiet and I had hoped that you had fixed it, but if we don't get feedback we can't help much more than we have. I don't think they covered crystal ball gazing at trade school :-)

        Finally was able to fix the problem, I was scared of replacing anything without being sure what to exactly replace and if that would fix the issue, but went for it !
        Replaced timing control valve on the pump and bingo, error code gone power is back. it was a pain in the @ss to replace the valve though did it without taking off the pump, almost had no space to unbolt the sensor.

          No need to replace necessarily! I had this problem too. I overcome it by applying 12v from the battery directly to the SCV terminals about 20 times in quick succession. I am guessing the solenoid gets a bit sticky and on mine was stuck open. This seemed to have freed it up!

            Bit of an ancient thread dig, but the TCV isn’t just an on/ off solenoid.
            She works on duty cycle so they’re very hard to diagnose as faulty without specialist gear.
            You can resistance check and they may come up OK as mine did, but once hot they begin to fail.
            Power drops away until under heavy load she throws in the towel with a code 14 fault.
            Finally you know the problem.
            An absolute bastard of a job in situ, I even considered removing the engine mount at one stage.
            Had to get Mrs with her smaller hands to fit the baby Allen head setscrews.
            Then finding a suitable Allen key is another problem, simply no room to work tools.
            But an instant fix, always good to have a win.
            I bought my TCV from Amayama.
