I don't know if its been discussed before but I thought I'd share this. My Fuel economy has been gradually getting worse and not having driven the vehicle for some time the Mrs was complaining about the vehicle being down on power. I went for a drive with the scan tool connected yeah it was down on power and struggling to make 5 psi boost pressure. On closer inspection checking for a blockage in the MAP sensor filter I noticed that it had a clack across the top of it. I've ordered a new one but just bypassed it for the time and it's like night and day the difference. It goes like it used to and economy back in the low 10s. I since checked a mates and exactly the same thing. It's a pretty easy thing to check once the engine cover is off. You'll see the MAP sensor toward the front of the engine on the LHS and it is connected via a hose to the manifold near the EGR valve. In that hose is a round plastic filter. Simply disconnect it and blow through it to check for a blockage and seal your finger over one end and blow to ensure there are no leaks. I hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for Posting this Mozz,
Im experiencing similar symptoms, in my 2006 Prado (I think is a 1kz) and have been trolling through the forums looking for a possible answer.
I had dropped it into the Toyota garage who noted a MAP sensor error code that they were looking into when I spoke to them but have since been unable to resolve the issue and have told the wife the next step is engine removal (or partial) to get to the fuel system to check that. I'm fairly handy -no formal training- but have never worked on a Prado however engine removal seems a little extreme to me??
They are charging a fortune so if theres a chance a $40 filter can solve it Im going to give that a go (or at least a closer inspection/bypass).
Just so I have understood the relationship, if there is a blockage or a crack in the filter then the MAP sensor will be getting a lower reading and therefore tell the ECU that the engine is getting less air than it actually is so the ECU restricts the fuel. net result poor power production.
The garage has told the wife to pick the Prado up and drive it until the fuel tank is nearly empty (they've said they need to drain the fuel for the next step) so I'll have a look at the filter when I get back from work on Monday.
#### you seem to be a fairly knowledgeable contributor to these forums, are there another areas I should be looking into? FYI I've had the vehicle for 12 months, its got 180000kms its been down on power since we got it but seems to be getting worse. when we picked it up the air filter was clogged with dust and the intake manifold had to be pressure washed to remove the black crud that had built up so I suspect its not had a great service history.

Tricks of the trade, we clean them. When they get past 150,000k, consider replacing them.
