  • How to clean PRADO OIL PICKUP - blocked oil pickup screen - 1kd-ftv 3.0lt diesel

Ok time for a fresh d.i.y in exactly how to clean your PRADO diesel oil pickup.
If you have brass washers & blow by, you need to clean it up & get them out ASAP.

    Raise vehicle safely.
Remove bash plates. 12mm, if genuine originals, or could be 13mm.
    Drain oil 14mm sump plug.

    They are 10mm.
    Clean the pickup/strainer., 10mm also.
Ideally a new gasket & 8nm. I re-use them no worries at all.
    Sump bolts evenly nicely 9nm.

No gasket on sump, I use grey Maxx you buy from ripco.

      Remove the sump

Thank you so much for your post wich help me a lot, but i still have a question if you dont mind. Is it easy to remove the oil sump? or you have to remove anything out of the way? If i remove the bash plates and the sump bolts does it come out? Thank for your time

        My pleasure to help.

Just remove the bash plate on a Prado.
        Hilux is more difficult.

Today i took the carter out and clean the oil pick up. Toyota said it would take at least two days has they had to remove engine cause the carter would hit the bar and bla bla bla...
After your advise i lifted the Prado, and in less than two hours all was done.
Biggest problem was my fault, has i tightend one of the carter screws too far and destroyed the thread ( Put a lot o silicone around the area, and so far is not leaking, lets see if it holds.
Anyway heres some pictures of my oil pick up

What a great thread, thank you ############# for your invaluable information. I recently bought 2007 D4D, the previous owner bought new, had to replace engine 140K ago. Had recall done, has really looked after it. I'll check this when I next drop oil.

It only takes 30 seconds to shine a torch in after the oil has drained, you will see if its clear or not.
                    If its clear, your done!
This is what you want to see

If its blocked, then you will only then need to remove the sump & clean it.
                    Not good view here.......

                    Check 30 seconds.
                    Clean 1 hr.
                    120&150 same.

No egr has 0 to do with this.

No! Egr has 0 (zero) nothing, not related, at all to do with it.

                        Have a read.......
