  • Rebuilding a D4D

So my latest adventure has come to a premature end. Sudden loss
power smoking and dropped onto 3 cylinders. Fortunately before crossing the Simpson!
Injectors were replaced 20k ago as readings 2.4 on 1
Cyl. EGT normal then went sky high - all happened in space of
5 secs and injectors recently checked.

So I want to hear from anyone who has rebuilt their
own engine as to the success they had doing it.
Please don't comment with buy a Toyota new engine
as not a viable option for me! Thanks

Give a rebuild place a call and see what they quote. Don't use Toyota pistons for the rebuild as they're known to be weak.

Looking at ceramic coated pistons with extra oil jets should be out of trouble for $3200 inc head overhaul with me assembling!

Where did you get the pistons from?

Engines Australia do them but only to order - you are looking at a 3 week wait to Ceramic coat them. Unfortunately my block is already at 040 even though the car has only done 139000 kms. Have sourced another motor potentially but am going to start another thread to see if anyone has used them.

Can 1kd's have liners pressed in after boring out the block?

Apparently! But my block is std the machine shop made an assumption based
on the numbers stamped on my pistons. 040 is the first batch with 080 the next one
and 110 the ones you should be using according to the TSB!

so your rebuilding your std block ?
they got the numbers on the pistons mixed up with the bore size of the block ?

they have done one before haven't they ????
