  • New Diesel fuel

This week, a new diesel fuel (BP Ultimate Diesel) is being introduced in Adelaide. It is described as a "refined premium diesel fuel with higher cetane and lower sulphur than specified in the Australian Standard. It is formulated to burn better than ordinary diesel
fuel and remove deposits from vital engine components such as injectors, enabling engines
to run more smoothly and efficiently." It is meant to provide improved economy and reduce engine noise. Apparently will be about 1.5c/L dearer than ordinary diesel. A lot has been made of this with an article in the Adealide Advertiser on it.

I think this fuel has been available in other states (WA and QLD) before now. Does anyone use it and what do people think of the claims above?
I've just filled mine up with a full double tank of ordinary diesel so it will be ages before I can try it out!

      Re: New Diesel fuel

Caltex started this late last year. I have a Star card, so only fill with Caltex. My 2 local Caltex started offering I think they called it Vortex Diesel at anywhere between 10 and 15 cents per litre dearer...... then as of last month they now ONLY offer the Vortex.
BP down the road today is selling Diesel at $1.13pl, Caltex, less than a klm away is selling Diesel at $1.27.9pl. I know the Vortex is meant to be a better fuel..... but at 15 cents pl dearer it does make a difference when putting 100ltrs in.

BEWARE..... I can see BP heading down the same road.

We've had BP Diesel Ultimate for quite a while now. I dunno how much of a difference it makes. Sounds like a good idea. And normally its no worse in price than the diesel other servos sell.

As per Pedro I have been running BP ultimate now for several months. Used to run BP ordinary, and used one tank of ordinary in the middle of using Ultimate when on a trip. Can't say I noticed any difference, but as price difference is small, may as well use the supposed good stuff.

But it's better for the environment - think GREEN!

$106.90 per litre for diesel - you Queenslanders are definitely spoilt. $127.90 in Kalgoorlie. Over $1.30 if you wan't the ultimate stuff.

Yep, been BP Ultimate diesel since new without any issue whatsoever. $1.22 at my local BP at the moment. Once again though, I've never used anything else so I can't tell you of any noticeable differences with other diesels. I just decided it was another thing I could do in an attempt to get my Prado into old age without issue.

                  Re: New Diesel fuel

Just filled up with about 140 litres of BP Ultimate Diesel. Dont notice any changes as yet and I am still dialing in the scanguage.
I think quite a few of the BPs have this now, I checked last week and the one close to me in Adelaide was about 30 mins away, now its only just around the corner. Got it for $1.17 a litre.

                    Re: New Diesel fuel

I fill up on the Ultimate diesel when ever I'm in Perth. The car seems to really love it compared to the normal diesel.
I haven't measured / don't really care about economy differences, the performance difference alone is enough for me.

This has exactly been my experience based on all of 1 week's use. I let the tank run right down and then completely filled it up. The difference in performance was very surprising to me. The usual faint cold/under acceleration rattle virtually disappeared immediately, the engine seems much quieter and according to our trip computer the economy is slightly better but too early to tell for sure. I agree, even if the economy is the same I will continue to use it with the improved performance. I think in Adelaide it is 1.7c/L dearer than ordinary diesel (according to the BP where filled up). I was sceptical about the hype....there was a newspaper article about it here....but it really does seem noticeably better than the diesel we had been using.

                        yep!

I've had a few mates say the same thing about the ultimate. It's a winner in my book!

At the Caltex Servo where I get my fuel there is a sign on the pump that it contains UP TO 2% BIODIESEL!!!

There is another good reason to avoid Caltex.

My sister works at a place that has a fleet of diesel cars, and their head office requested that they not use Caltex when refilling as they had seen a higher incidence of clogged fuel filters in their fleet.

The BP nearest to me was re-furbished a little while ago and they increased the number of diesel pumps, now we have 4 pumps with BP Ultimate which makes it easier to fill-up.
