Don't you Darwinites enjoy that cheap fuel direct from Singapore?

Dollar fourty odd for BP Ultimate Diesel as opposed to $1.33 for woolies Caltex here in the biggest hole in the state (Kalgoorlie).

      Re: New Diesel fuel

No BP Ultimate Diesel here in Darwin (or NT for that matter). We might get that fuel direct from Singapore, but I think they have to first transport it interstate before returning it to be distributed to the servos - hence the higher prices we pay!

        Re: New Diesel fuel

I've been using BP Ultimate for about 18 months and have noticed about a couple of litres/100km improvement and it is supposed to be cleaner for the engine and the environment. It is a couple of cents per litre dearer but, if it helps the engine .... go for it!

Yes...I think we seem to get 0.2 - 0.3L/100km improvement according to our trip computer.

There is another good reason to avoid Caltex.
Why? Toyota say it's ok up to 5%
              http://www.toyota.com.au/faqs
Toyota will endorse biodiesel fuel blends using FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters that comply with either EN14214 or ASTM D6751 standards) of up to 5% volume concentration when mixed with conventional diesel fuel. The final product B5 (5% Biodiesel blend) at the pump must conform to the national Diesel Fuel Standard which is based on EN590.

                Re: New Diesel fuel

I did a refill from empty today with BP Ultimate, the old girl took 168lts of the stuff.

Couple of things I noticed straight away.... BP claim the stuff smells less... stinks the same to me... good old diesel stink... you gotta love it.

Secondly it's claimed it foams less... and surprise, surprise it does.... the pump clicked off, I gave it a second squirt and pulled the nozzle out and low and behold I had liquid diesel to within 8 inches of the top. Normally you can stand there for another 10 mins dribbling another 5 litres or so in and still only ever see foam to the neck.

Apart from that it drives the same and sounds the same... not expecting any radical fuel savings either...

Now she has a belly full of the stuff I think I'll run a couple of tanks through and report back any changes. My truck has very consistent fuel usage and I run a tight log book for work so any economy change will be fairly apparent.

                  Re: New Diesel fuel

I've been filling up with this stuff the last four or five tanks and I am a massive fan. It is foamless as you say Mick, and after standing at the bowser for 15mins filling up I went in to pay and the attendant told me there was a high flow pump to my left two over  I'm pretty happy that a normal metro servo has this and not just the truck stops now.

As for ecomony, I have found that I am getting about another 200km's out of the tanks. Also very happy with that. The BP Servo that is my local only has this Ultimate Diesel now, not sure if this is across the board or not for all BP's.

I'll be continuing to use it.

                  Cheers,
                  AJ

Hmmm, When I first started using diesel ultimate I actually noticed the D4D less responsive. With ultimate in, I tend to do around 10.8 - 11L/100Km (averaged over 4 full tanks). With standard diesel my responsiveness is back, and i'm also back down around 9.8 - 10.2L/100Km. Maybe my injectors/engine is tuned for standard fuel!

I'm not convinced either. I'm now on my third tank full and have noticed no measurable fuel economy change or change in power/responsiveness for that matter.

One thing I did notice was a slight change in engine noise, maybe not any quieter but just different. This is most noticeable at idle.

                        Re: New Diesel fuel

Without wanting to open a whole can of worms, from what I am reading, it appears that BP Ultimate is ordinary diesel with an additive thrown in.

Because we only have ordinary plain flavoured diesel in NZ, I use this stuff here,

                        http://www.moreyoil.co.nz/details.ph...11&productID=2

                        every 2nd tank or so

It costs about NZ$18.00 for a 1 litre bottle and treats 650 litres of fuel, so that works out to just under 3 cents a litre.

It claims to raise the cetane rating by up to 5 points as well, but I haven't noticed any difference in fuel economy or oil consumption. I have noticed that it does make the fuel foam less when refuelling and I've noticed that it does provide more responsiveness at low revs. It also claims to keep the fuel system clean from bug etc etc. I've been using it for the last 30,000kms and have noticed no adverse effects.

Could be an option for some of you guys in Oz who dont have access to BP Ultimate.

Disclaimer - no warranty implied, no responsibility etc etc blah blah bblah

                            Re: New Diesel fuel

The Kalgoorlie explosives reserve, with manufacturing companies including Dyno Nobel and Orica, onlu use BP diesel - apparently it is cleaner and more consistent in it's content.

They do hundreds of samples every day throughout the explsoives (AN) manufacturing process and can verify this. They use hundreds of thousands of litres every day.

I don't think this means much to us motorists, but if they say it's cleaner than the other stuff (Shell - there's only 2 manufacturers in WA) then I'll take their word for it.

                              Re: New Diesel fuel

I contacted BP Australia to find out when BP Ultimate Diesel will be available in Victoria. The fuel technical help line was unable to say when Ultimate Diesel will be announced for Victoria.

I asked how many parts per million sulphur is currently supplied in regular BP diesel. The answer from BP is that since 2009, they been supplying ultra low sulphur diesel, which is 10 ppm.

Good enough response for me. 8)

Superpit uses 7 MILLION LITRES A WEEK.

                                At $132.9 per litre = $9.303 million.

I'd like to get just a little bit of that.
