    my d4d has all of a sudden got no guts. was towing van today all ok then all of a sudden it died as if van brakes were on. very embarrasing screaming at 70kmh on 110 motorway. any ideas before i go get filled with crap from mechanics?

      hi greeny120. the engine light came on doing the same thing 2 weeks ago. i took it to mechanic he cleaned some carbon build up making some valve stick then reset the computer. this time no light has come on

        Hard to say without being able to check it out in person. One thing you can do is completely go over all the lines in the engine bay and make sure there's no vacuum lines or connectors come loose. If the mechanic was in there only 2 weeks ago, he could of not fitted a line back up properly or knocked something loose.

          Thanks for that lowrange hopefully that may be it as it was ok towing van for Im guessing about 550km then just died in the arse and basically had to crawl for another hour or more. If it is a hose connection would the engine light come on as it didnt like the last time?

            just for any future reference. I spoke to my mechanic on the phone who isnt a toyota dealer but has service my prado every 10,000km from when i bought it at 30,000km and it is now 187,000km said it had gone into limp mode and to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and the computer will reset itself. I also spoke to the mechanic who worked on it 2 weeks ago who said code scan came up p2006 intake manifold runner control stuck and found carbon build up so pulled apart and cleaned plus cleaned airflow meter and sensor line. erased code and reset test drove and could not fault. egr valve the culprit. I am unsure whether to disconnect the battery until the toyota dealer has done a scan (which will cost a mint) just incase a code comes up which may be detrimental to the car if i keep driving it?

              If you disconnect the battery it will most likely delete the code and any data with that code. However if it’s EGR or emissions related it may not clear. Bit of a gamble but will be hard to diagnose with no code there.

                thanks for that greeny120 I have it booked in at port stephens toyota tomorrow morning at 9 lets hope they dont call me at 5 and say cant find anything so we did this that and $$$ later

                    Hey Greeny120 the manifold was sent off to a place to be cleaned thoroughly. The same issue happened again on the same hill screaming not changing gear then going into limp mode. Mechanic has said nothing can be done except for scanning it while in limp mode (A lot of good that is)

                          Buy yourself a cheap scan tool, read codes if any happen with ECU light. You will be able to read parameters like boost levels during an incident and see if thats maybe whats causing it. I recommend Ultra gauge.
