  • 3.0 D4D engine suddenly stalled and now won't start\

    Hello Guys,
A couple of days ago i had my car idiling and was about to head out when i noticed my tank (diesel) a little low. I left it running while i added a jerry can of diesel and then it just stopped.
I have tried tro start it several times and it cranks and tries tro start but then fails.
We emptied the tank to check the fuel, but it was all ok. Replaced the fuel, checked the lines, changed the filter and still the same issue.

We have managed to "quick start" the car and get it running, and it runs ok if the revs are up around 3000 or just below...But as soon as they drop to 2000 or below it stops again.
Any ideas from this learned group as to what the issue could be???

Just FYI, i live in the remote bush and many hours away from any decent mechanic or a toyota dealer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Possibly stirred up crap in the bottom of tank and blocked a line partially? Pump strainer coated with junk? Air in lines?

Fuel seems to coming thru the outlet of the fuel filter with out a problem, and when i quick start the car, the car runs fine with the revs above 2000, but stalls below 1600rpm... Im puzzled

grab a super clean jerry can, fill it with diesel

and post fuel filter, hook it up to the fuel line...if it runs without stalling, you know at least its the fuel filter assembly, lines or jet pump

        process of elimination

Have you looked at the in tank “filter”. They are more of a sock than a filter, but I have seen them completely blocked by algae/ sludge. I’d be dropping the tank, cleaning it, replacing the in tank and final filters and see how that goes.
given it runs at high revs but stalls at idle, sounds exactly like a partial blockage.

Just to add, DO NOT run it unfiltered from even a super clean jerry can. Too much potential to damage the pump and injectors. Bad idea
