Front main seal - crankshaft seal 1KZ-TE

So, my front main seal is leaking. I need to get it changed asap>

I've not done one on the 1KZ-TE. A quick look in the service manual offers two methods to get it out.

1 remove the plate from the front of the engine
2 remove the seal with the plate in place

The manual suggests a Toyota SST (Special Service Tool) for options 2.


Anyone replaced the seal?

What did you use to remove it?
What did you use to fit the new one?

Any tips re replacing the seal and removing the harmonic balancer that I should know about before I tackle it ?
