    • Hi, I wanted to know if anyone has done the Throttle butterfly (venturi) removal on their prado, and if this mod is worth it.

is there any step by step guide around for this mod?

          A verrry late reply>
Not to sure about the link now, but only let the acetone evapaorate once it is running clear, otherwise any dissolve crud just dries on the surfaces,.

            Great video Steven.
I just had my mechanic do essentially the same for me (just don't have the time to do it myself). One point he made was that the fuel injector lines should be replaced as they are apparently essentially a single use part due to the pressures etc, ie when you take them off they should be replaced. They were about $60 each (x5).
I'm happy with the result. No rocketship still but definitely a lot less sluggish off idle and when cold. Just feel it breathing more easily. (Mines done 320,000km)

Had a right pain getting the manifold off, had to get a second pair of hands to bring a massive 32mm spanner round to do that big nut at the back. Yesterday soaked it in petrol for a bit but then got worries about potentially ignition of the petrol, somehow. Then sprayed it with oven cleaner but after the first clean noticed it was corroding the aluminium - seems the jury is out on using oven cleaner on this part. Anyway, didn't want to take the risk so gave it a rinse off

Today soaked in in CT14 which a mechanic recommended to me. Still some really stubborn grime in there, hoping it will spray off soon. This stuff is absolutely horrible, seems to get everywhere.

Throttle body I just hit with a load of brake cleaner and it looks fine. The outside of the hose between the throttle body and the intercooler is also filthy, is that bad?

Now I need to tackle the ports. I've seen a few people talk about rotating the engine to get the valves to close so you don't drop anything in. Can someone talk me through this process or point me in the right direction?

Also, what's good to rinse the manifold with to get rid of any residue? Alcohol would be a good one, but it's so expensive cos of COVID. Is white spirit any good? Or just spray it with heaps of brake cleaner?

              • I ended up just using loads of brake cleaner and a pressure washer. That CT14 soak did the trick. Looks the business

I also found out how to rotate the engine from the Haynes manual - good job I found that cos it says rotate clockwise, where everywhere else says anti-clockwise - so tomorrow I will tackle the inlet ports if I don't manage to snap my glow plugs. Not looking forward to that at all!

I also just left the intercooler. Too much umming and ahhing about what to use to clean it without damaging the plastic, and then having to dispose of it, which is a headache of its own.
