Most of your common insurers will allow a certain number of modifications - I'm with AAMI now and the last time around with them they allowed up to 3 only.
As I've had heavily modified Fords during the past few years I've had to go with Shannons however I'm back with AAMI now as they're 2/3 the price and I don't expect to me modifying the car much at all.
There's a difference between factory option, accessory and modification. headers are a mod whereas the most common add-ons to a 4wd tend to be options or accessories. It's always best to check with your insure a couple of times as you'd be surprised how often you'll get a different answer each time you call! That said, there are mods that are obvious and many that aren't, even to an experienced assessor.
You've reminded me to check with AAMI again to see if they still have the same policy - just to be 100% safe but I'd be shocked if they didn't.

The pacies look great!
So how different is the drive now from standard? And more importantly have you noticed any difference in fuel?... how much better is the fuel economy?

I also just had a set of Pacemakers fitted - and couldn't get over the pre-historic manifold that they replaced. Toyota must have dug up someone to design the manifold for them

Bloody hell, you guys!
I really did want to stop spending money on my car - then along you all come and get me interested in bloody extractors and a unichip...
Does it ever end?
By the time I'm done, this car's gonna cost me more than the space shuttle.

Guest repliedNo dyno time I'm afraid. I've spent years modding late model Ford V8 Windsors and am getting bit tired of dyno charts, injection table and power/torque values etc. I kinda just want to slow down, go outside and drive these days.
Here are some pics of the Pacemaker PH12670 (fits to Pre-Cats, primary pipe: 1 ⅝" or 41mm, secondary pipe: 44mm, outlet (flanged): 2" or 51mm (51mm).

Guest repliedI had Rob Bliss Exhaust (Brissy) fit a set of Pacemaker extractors yesterday and I still can't get over the difference they have made - it's a different car to drive with a very noticable increase in power throughout the rev range.
Ceramic coated tri-y, all mandrel bend, first class piece of work - the best $770 I've ever spent! Anyone who doesn't have a set of these you're missing out. I have some pics and will upload when I get a chance.

I recently received a PM asking where I got my extractors done. I thought it might be an idea to post the details here for everyone's benefit.
Windsor Exhaust Centre
13 Windsor Street,
RICHMOND NSW 2753
Phone: 02 4588 5533
Spoke to Russell. He was very helpful and a worthy businessman.
I paid $1,080 including installation and the (expensive) ceramic coating.
Very glad I had it done, I fully believe it was worth the spend.
Drew.

I sold my beloved Triumph Bonneville to a collector. This has given me a bit of spare cash to get the things finished on the Toyota.
My mates at work are giving me a hard time! I keep telling them that you need to buy one accessory per week, that's the rule.
Seriously though, the spending is about to stop big time. I've almost got the vehicle configured how I want.
Now to get out there are see Australia and enjoy my truck.
Cheers,
Drew.

They just changed the headers and left the rest of the exhaust system in place? I think that is right from the pictures ?
The irony about he fuel economy is that I fitted a winch and all the associated steelwork last week, next week I'm getting a snorkle fitted and possibly an OME suspension kit. So the longer term fuel figures are going to be a bit skewed.

Drew.

Ok. Here are the photos.
It sure doesn't sound like a V6 Bomberdore (thankfully)! I'm happy with it.
I can't remember what the primary pipe diameter is, but the final pipe (I think they call it the intermediate) is 2.5".
They are a set of Genie Wildcat #277. See Genie's catalogue here: http://www.genieheaders.com/Catalogue2006.html
They cost just over $1000 fitted. I actually ordered the 278s but they supplied the 277s with the new Y branch as they were having problems with these systems installed.
I'm very happy with it so far.
I also got the exhaust place to replace the tip with a polished stainless item. I know, it's pointless bling on an off road vehicle but I couldn't help myself.
Drew.

It's grouse!
I'm about to head outside and take some photos. I was busy last night and didn't get a chance.
The power increase was immediately noticeable. I have a ScanGauge that shows my actual fuel flow rate in real time. For the same push in the back, the fuel flow was lower. For a given fuel flow, the push in the back was greater.
Climbing hills (I live at 640mASL and work at 30mASL) the 120 holds on to a higher gear for longer, and that's with a full tank of juice. Can't wait until I burn off 100kg.
I got the system ceramic coated also. They look awesome. Shame it's not a show car!
The engine noise is much quieter. Particularly under acceleration with the windows down.
The exhaust note is deeper and has a bit of a burble. Has a nice racey note when it's given a rev. The exhaust note under acceleration is deeper and slightly louder. With the windows down is almost has a bit of a V8 rumble.
I don't feel so bad about missing out on a D4D now!
Photo and system configuration details to follow.
Drew.

Guest repliedI'm not a genie fan anymore.
We had a set fitted to one of our work cars and had nothing but pure trouble from them. After 5 warranty claims and 5 new sets, they ended up giving us our money back and telling us to "p^^% off".... (True)...
Turns out the units couldnt handle the heat (Full time LPG vehicles) and underbonnet temps and would literally melt the metal where the two sections were close together and cause them to bubble & crystalise and ultimately break thru.
I would suggest by now they have (hopefully) improved their quality and customer approach, but I still refuse to ever buy thier products again.
