Just remember, ribbed side rolls over grooved pulleys, smooth side over smooth or "not grooved" pulleys..

Part number is 9091602571 Cost from Amayama was $67.09 AUD (+ shipping)

Isn't that diagram inside the engine bay somewhere too? It is on my D4D

It is a pretty simple job, just put a 14mm socket and breaker bar on the tensioning pulley bolt (pulley on RH-side of the water pump) and turn anti-clockwise like you are trying to undo the bolt. The tensioning pulley bolt is reverse-threaded and the tensioning pulley is spring-loaded. This should move the pulley inwards and thus slackening the belt. Then remove old belt and put new belt in place. Easy-as, just make sure the ribs in the belt line up with the pulleys on the power steering, water pump and AC compressor correctly!

I'm going to replace my belt before next offroad adventure .

I had a quick look at amayama and it was stating aftermarket belt.

I try not to scrimp with the Prado, but when Supercrap are listing the belt at $70 and the exact same can be had from the Uk via fleabay at $33, it's hard not to go the cheaper purchase.

Is a Gates belt a Gates belt? or are there knock-offs to be wary of?

I'm yet to phone Repco and the Toyota Stealership to compare pricing.

              cheers in advance.

I paid about $50 Trade thru Bursons. repco are same same.
If you've got access to a hoist it's easier to replace it from below without removing the fan.

my ramps get it up pretty high. so might have a look if I can do it from below. starting to wish i hadn't filled my pit full of engine blocks and diffs for a future distant project!

                  gates or dayco? brand matter?

as i'm not sure there are ways to "save" posts, i will post a reply in here so when i come back through my profile to see what i posted in this will be flagged...

also. anyone know when the belt should be replaced - standard servicing? this belt would get replaced when? - or is this something that when you start hearing squeaks or smeling burning slipping rubber it's good to check it?

Simply subscribe to the thread, then you can find it, and any replies will be noted to you. Check the belt regularly, I replace mine about every 100K or when it becomes a bit crappy looking. They are cheap and easy to do.

ok sooo, the subscribe button is hidden? - i'm guessing it's not the "like" thread button though?

and i'm seriously hoping it's that much of an easy job you do yours once every 100k or it's meant to be 100,000k you meant right? please say it's the latter. lol

This looks like it would be a much easier job if the cooling fan and plastic housing are removed, as shown in Falco80's photo. Or am I just making the job unnecessarily complicated for myself?

Complicating it. Just slip it over the fan.
