My V6 is an an 05 and I'm looking to check over everything and make sure she's up to scratch.
On the exhaust side of things I'm wondering about an upgrade.
I hooked up the shop vacuum on blow to the tailpipe today and got underneath with the soapy water spray bottle. pretty much every flange joint is leaking in the pipes though from what I can see the manifolds are ok (secretly I was hoping for a manifold leak to both hopefully find the cause of an annoying noise and also justify pacemaker headers!)
I don't want to make the car noisier. It's always had a horrid sulphur ish smell under load. At a guess the cat converters may be shot and and the fumes escaping the flanged joints and into the car. so contemplating replacing the cats and pipes (or just new gaskets in the joins and tighen up)
Is there any point replacing the cats and pipes, leaving the factory manifolds and mufflers?
Also when I go into the exhaust shop I want to be educated... on each side there is 2 cansiters before the crossover pipe and y junciton? the first canister is on an angle closest to the manifold, looks like an expansion chamber or resonator to me? the second is parallel to the ground next to transmision and is what looks like a traditional cat converter to me due the pressed heat shields around it? Am i on the right track? what are these 4 canisters in what order?
I'm thinking going to 200 or 100 cspi cats and freshening up joints or pipes should get the system back in good order....
advice? Opinion?
cheers
