  • Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve (possible group buy)

I was ringing around a few dealers to have my Prado serviced (100K km) and it was going to cost $280  for a simple oil and filter change. So searching around PP for some DIY tips, I found that oldsalt has the Fumoto oil drain valve installed.

I rang one of the retailers (http://www.oilvalve.com.au) to find out the cost and it is $36 + $6 delivery (he is also listed on ebay). As usual, I asked for a discount for a group buy and the quick answer is no, but there will only be the one delivery fee for the lot. However, he will consider a discount if there is a lot of demand. There is currently one in stock and he is expecting more in a few weeks. The purpose of this post is to:

    1. Find out if there are anyone else using this valve and whether you ordered the nipple or non-nipple version and if you had any issues with clearance? The sump plug looks well protected above the bash plate.
    2. Find out if anyone (in both Adelaide or Sydney) is interested in saving a bit on the delivery costs. (I'm travelling to Sydney for Christmas and will be in the Hills district).

Re: Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve (possible group buy)

I recently bought the oilvalve from an ebay store based in the US for a cheaper price than from somewhere local.
    This is the seller http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/qwikvalve2005/

This is how it comes packaged

So far so good. Looking forward to the next oil change

I notice you can also get one with a nozzle to connect a hose. Would that fit under our new plates?

There's plenty of clearance but I don't think the nozzle version is necessary. I've had no issues with splatter, spillage, etc.

I have one (with nipple) fitted on my 90. I stripped the first one when I tried to torque it to the same spec as the drain plug (as per the instructions) - my heart nearly stopped when I thought I had stripped the sump hole... Second one is on now and does its job.

Looks handy. I'd be hesitant to use one while I've got the tin foil bash plate. Maybe when I upgrade to a 4mm plate I'll get one.

The sump plug is quite high and is near a chassis cross member. It is unlikely to be hurt but I will feel much better once the bashplates go on too!

True. By the time you get it snagged on a rock, you probably wont be driving out of there as you will have likely cracked your front diff housing.

Meh, I like amts idea. Mine has the nipple so all good and it arrived today!!!!!!!!!!!

Means I don't have to pack a pump or anything bulky and can still do an oil change in the bush if required with a minimum of fuss.
