  • Exhaust System upgrade

    Breathing a lot easier now..!

My previous pacemaker headers lasted about 5 years, but recently had a catastrophic failure in the parent metal just before the flange on the drivers side.

So, got the new system fitted yesterday, Pacemaker headers once again, with King Brown 2 1/2 stainless pipes.

The cats, just after the headers, were in good condition so they were re-used, saved about $380 each.

One of the photos of the rear end shows the old exhaust tip, copped some battle damage out and about crawling up some rocks..!

Thanks for the reply Duncan ,i saw online on ebay pacemakers for around $600 , i was wondering if i can save a few dollars , and also buy the muflers/silencers and just buy the tubing and take it in to get the bends done and bolt it on .,.. From your quote parts were $ 1682 . i may experiment and see how i go . youve given me a good start place .I wonder if i can escape with $1000 . its a lot to ask for a grand , but ya never know till ya give it a go....

i see on yours besides the converter ,you have a silencer behind the extractors , and another smaller one at the end . . or is that a muffler sitting there about the middle and a smaller one at the end.
what size are they . are they strait though mufflers or off set ? . Is it very loud now compared to before.?

Hi Tonz, the headers (extractors) go straight into the catalytic converters on each side, they then join together where you see them going 2 into 1, then into the large muffler, then into the small round muffler prior to the end of the exhaust pipe.

oh i see now duncan the muffler is offset and a smaller silencer at the end . how did you go with the sound , did it alter much with all the change . if it is slightly louder than before i may copy yours. by using the offset muffler i would imagine its not toooooo much louder than before.

as its not a v8 and im not 18 anymore i would hate if i turned it into a droney fart on the high way just to be hounded by the miss"s saying things like"" its sounds like a tractor now , why didnt you just by a tractor"" , you know the kind of remarks you get from people that dont appreciate engineering /racing/or boys with toys or just cuz you simply like it .
in reality its me who doesn't want to sound like a drone.

Hi Tonz, it doesn’t drone at all which is great.

This system sounds a lot crisper and cleaner than the previous system, which also wasn’t stock.

The headers do alleviate the ticker - lifter type sound from the stock ones, so that’s also a bonus.

Hello, apologies for hopping onto your wagon but this apparently is the only post in the 120 series forum that contains the word "catalytic". I wonder if I could ask for your help regarding the location of the (I assume two) catalytic converters on the GRJ120L Prado' on the 1GR-FE? Are they part of the exhaust manifold (iright next to the engine block), or a further back (visible on the underside of the car, protected by semi-cylindrical meta covers)?

I'm trying to find out through Google and eBay but am getting confusing info.

                  Thanks!

Catalytic converters are on each side, directly after headers/extractors.

See attached photo. Blue section is the header, brown section is the exhaust, cat in the middle.
