Fuel light issues

Hi all,

Since owning my Prado I have been closely monitoring my fuel as we all do . But something strange has happened every time and I wondering if anybody has had similar issues or ideas as to what's going on.

I filled up to full, until fuel was literally sitting at the fuel cap.
Was using around 15.8l per 100 going by trip computer .
Got to 490km when tank change over occurred .

before I knew it the fuel light was on and I'd only travelled 720km. Still at around 15.4-15.5l per 100 going by the ecu.
Disappointed , I filled the tank up with as much as I could , even drove a while and filled up more and could only get in 120 litres. Sure enough gauge was full and that was that.

I'm running 265-70-17, so adding in a 5 percent error thats around 755km travelled . Giving me a 15.8 liters per hundred .

Has the fuel light come on like this for anyone else?

I’m in a similar boat.
I filled the car up on Friday as I thought it was near empty and all it would take was 135 litres, so having just bought the car thought yep fair enough move on.

left Perth for Karratha yesterday driving over 400ks before the gauge moved, got 830 odd ks gauge was reading half and then went to second 90 litres, thought well I got over 800 out of the first 90 so I’ll get over 800 out of the second 90 and I did cause I’m home.

mines a diesel but basically same type of scenario. Definitely need a scan gauge sooner than later

Mmm, not sure. I read through it but I'm not sure I got any fixes. My range is only 800km when I fill to full. Then as I have gotten to 750 odd kms, my range is showing 50km or below , amber fuel light is on and yet sure enough I can only get 120L in. I'm not brave enough to keep on going, my next solution is to just throw the Jerry can in and drive to empty, we'll see truths then!
