  • Leak from top radiator hose

    i all,

I've got a small coolant leak from the top radiator hose where it attaches to the radiator (see attached pic).
I'm not sure if it's the hose, the clamp or the radiator. I've changed the radiator cap as I thought it's coming from there, but when i changed it, cleaned everything, the coolant is only coming from underneath the hose.

Has anyone had this issue before?
Do you have to flush coolant when replacing just the top hose?

I don't want to have to flush/replace coolant, and when I take it off it's the radiator that's cracked. Trying to keep the downtime as much as possible (and it would take awhile to get a new radiator).

P.S. how do you attach the full size photo?
I've just added the imgur link below to the full size

If it is the original radiator it is probably stuffed. Good aftermarket radiators are cheap - circa $250 upwards compared to $ 700 + for genuine. Replace it, both radiator hoses and the serpentine belt while you are at it. No further worries and use new coolant. That looks like an original hose and it looks to be bulging. Trouble brewing so fix the lot for a whole lot less than just the cost of a Toyota radiator. 13 years is a very long life for this stuff.

Thanks for your reply! I know the best thing would be to fix the lot, just not too keen on spending $700. Need other bits on the car might just bit the bullet and change the top hose and see if the radiator is cracked where the hose connects. Do I need to do a flush when replacing the top hose? As in, will Ankit of coolant come out?

i just had a similar issue, failed radiator cap--> replace --> back to full pressure caused the radiator to leak--> being tight and lazy i changed the radiator but not the hoses

point of the story was that then i got a leak from the top radiator hose, it was weeping out here thread embedded in the hose, so it must have had a crack inside the hose.

if you just change the top hose, you'll prob loose about a liter of fluid. try that option first for $20.
