    Hi All,

    Without getting into too much detail, what kind of life span do people generally get out of a 1GR-FE?

    Has anyone engine swapped/ looked into doing a d4d conversion?

    My car is running really well but down the track 5 years or so could be fun to do a conversion (if/when the engine spits it)

    Petrol and diesel models have a different engine.
    The 1GR lasts a long time if the oil changes are kept up.

      The 1GR-FE V6 engine is arguably more reliable but thirstier and may very well outlast a 1KD-FTV D4D engine, which requires regular injector servicing.

      I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least 300,000 - 400,000km from the 1GR-FE V6 depending on how it's driven and serviced, some can go over 700,000km https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...life-of-4-0-v6

        LOL, no way id do a D4D (Destined 4 destruction) over the v6. Seen nothing but issues with the diesel and expensive maintenance needed to keep them going.

        Mates fleet has some 1GR v6's and one has hit 800k kms last year. Oil changes are the key ingredient. 02 sensors and good fuel.

          Just Ticked over 400,000kms on mine and still going strong. I do my oil changes every 7,500kms
          For every part broken comes the great opportunity to upgrade, enhance and improve. Just dont tell the other half how much its going to cost.

            To sure if this topic is still running but here goes.

            im looking at purchasing a 2012 V6 Prado, these two I’m seriously considering:

            2012 V6, 81,000 kms but hasn’t been serviced in 2 years as they don’t drive it much due to COVID Melbourne lockdowns
            2012 V6, 153,000 kms from a car yard - viewed services and they have been on time, this vehicle will come with 175,000 km or 5 year warranty

            im leaning towards the car yard one but the 81,000 km option sounds great as they are older and haven’t done any heavy stuff - though I think they mostly do city driving which would add weight to not getting this car.

            Anyway, if anyone has heard of problems when people,leave them for that long without a service.

            I have done research and am pretty sure I should steer clear of anything that goes that long between services but just checking. Any input would be appreciated.

              Go the low Km one. Ive a 2004 GXL with same motor, Just ticked over 150k Kms. Its only used for trips away and spends most of its time in the garage. Since its been out of warranty I get it fully serviced at a local mechanic every 10000 but with the amount of use sometimes that could be well over 12 months between services. I would love to buy a new 4WD but Im not a fan of any of the new diesels and as the only option for a new petrol is a american import I think Ill keep the prado. At current rate of use I reckon Ill get another 20 years out of it.
