Missed any services? Very easy for these to gum up oil and go sludgy if services missed. I'd be dropping oil and the mini sump to check the inlet screen on the oil pickup, if its gunked, its likely you have bad oil flow and a few shot bearings in the engine.

Put some kero/ diesel into engine oil - drive around local street for 20 mins with engine speed under 2k; drain oil, take off sump pan, clean and clean the gunk off every where your hand can reach..: refill with engine oil, do a few more 1000km oil change ( not a typo not 10,000 kn) and monitor oil, soon as it brown up, change….

you will find the noise disappears- if it doesn’t, you have let the situation gone on too fat

Doesnt sound good Sounds very much like a major overhaul coming up,
could be anything from a loose piston skirt to a cracked valve shim. cam bearings WTF

I have a similar ratlle , no where as loud or heavy. Sadly I checked the radiator and didnt screw the cap on straight and it lost a bit of green juice after about 10Ks Luckily I had stopped to hook onto and drag a fallen branch from the road after a fire and heard a hissing noise . Thought it was a staked trye but no it was the radiator hissing through the crooked cap .Walked back to the camp and let it cool of for a few hours , Filled up the radiator with new inhibitor , took 4 litres, so it was very low , now it has a slight rattle and a miss . The engine warning ight comes and goes , a rough idle , but engine warning light goes out above 1000RPM. Also the Oil light comes on and off . Has new oil, even an extra 60MM on the dip stick . Thats what happens when I got it serviced in town , put in about 3L too much but didnt even change the oil or Air filters .. Cowboys , but they knew how to Charge

BTW I have just got this 06 VVTI Petrol and would like to check the Tranny <> is there a bung hole , dip stick push button??<> PICS pls anyone Its my first Auto Toyo the others have been Hiluxes or Cruisers with manual boxes and a bung Hole . DO LOVE the auto , fantastic in sand , if one wheel starts spinning just touch the brake and they all grip/spin together. Can even change gear on the beach, unlike the Hilux that spins and sinks . Autos from now on for me
