Ok I will have to concede I MAY have been thinking of a Grande that I drove, could have sworn one of the GXLs did too - must have been dreaming...sorry peoples...
My 2008 GXL didn't have a trip computer but had everything else. Also had roof rails as standard. Mine also had 6 disc in dash CD and Bluetooth capability.
Shmick, not sure where you are from but a mate of mine still has his 2008 GXL D4D 6 Speed manual for sale if you are interested. PM me and I'll pass his details to you. The car is in Central QLD.
HI Hubble,
Unfortunately my wife only drives auto, so limited in the transmission department.
My father inlaw told me that the petrol prados use around 18l / 100km, didnt believe him! 11l/100 for highway driving is not bad, but yeah, surprised that it goes up so much for city. A mate of mine just picked up a Diesel Nissan
x-trail. he reakons he got 6.5l/100km on his last trip to sydney...
I did take a V6 Rav 4 for a test drive a while ago (I assume it is the same V6 Engine). The thing flew! Car is probably lighter.
Looking at some research, average cost of a 2008 GXL Prado is about 42k. This is factoring both private and dealer prices. Alas, my budget is 35k. Will get one early next year but spend some time reading through this form so I know what to look out for when buying one.
Great site for finding out about this car. Thanks for all your feedback.
We have had our 12/07 GXL V6 Auto prado for 5 weeks now and have filled it up twice.
Our fuel economy has been 13.3l/100km and 14/100km. I'm pretty happy with fuel economy as we had a BF XR6 that done 12l/100km so the economy isn't a major shock.
I look around for a while and wanted the upgrade model with rear A/C. I got one in Sydney private sale for $36750 with 63000km.
The difference between diesel and petrol come down to a overall running cost for me. You can buy a lot of petrol for the price diffence between diesel and petrol. I notice there can 10c a litre difference in petrols favour.
Overall but we love it.
Hi, I have just purchased a 12/07 D4d 6 speed manual and was wondering how to tell if it is fitted with the faulty injectors and if they have been replaced. One of you mentioned they used different injectors to the earlier D4d models but i would like to be sure as i suspect i am well out of the warranty period. It has 150,000 ks on it and i have driven it once along with a mechanic and it sounds fine from a cold start and when warmed up.
The option pack (I think it was called option pack 2) I got with my 2008 GXL D4D included:
Climate control
Cruise control
Radio buttons on wheel
Dual air
Leather steering wheel
Leather gear stick knob
Stability control
Traction control
Advanced ABS
Down hill assist
5 speed auto
Alloy 17" wheels
Full airbags, driver, passenger, front seats & curtain.

Depends how you drive it - I get 14l/100km in pure city driving

No - definitely NOT the same engine!!! (3.5litre vs 4.0litre)
Cannot compare a Rav4 with a Prado - apples and oranges.

'08 GXL V6 Manual with: O/L Bar, Cibie Oscars, Safari Snorkel, Revalved Ironman 45710 Struts & 45682 Shocks, Dobinsons & King springs, MickeyT STZs, Eaton E-locker on rear, ScanGaugeII, InaWise TPMS, and a Tvan controlled via TowPro.
Rav same motor as Aurion, not the prado, prado 4L the aurion/rav V6 3.5L, and yes go like a dog shot in the ar##, would love to have seen a rav with the TRD 3.5 in it, would be a weapon supercharged. Very light compared to prado, no tranfer case, dont think they even have centre diff lock anymore like the older models ?? also big difference to xtrail and wouldnt buy one of them if crusing around town they dont like it and end up blocking the exhaust up. Yes you would see 18 even more around town especially if you boot it, but drive with a light right foot and you will see lower, Depends also what people class as city driving, I see city driving as stop start peak hour crap and lucky if you see 60k, some people who class city dring and getting 13's (which you will not get if fair dinkum stop start city crap) also run up and down a freeway at 110k for 30 k then do 5k either side of that, I dont class that as bumper to bumper city driving. City driving is like what I do which is maximum allowed speed between home and work is 70k, the rest is 50 and 60, can take me 20/25 mins some times in the arvo to travel 9k this is what I class as city/peakhour travelling giving you results of 16L per 100 k upwards..Cheers Steve

Isn't that odd, my Jul 08 GXL D4D PRADO has all the above 'LESS' the traction control and Stability control.
Is that called a Prado Pack Minus the good bits

Is it a manual? The manual 120s were never offered with traction or stability control. One of the reasons I went auto.
Thanks for the replies guys, however.
Even odder then, it's an AUTO! I do have down hill assist though DSC. (Button on shift panel identified). I have side airbags (are labelled).
I'm new to this fancy 'Auto Box' stuff, my previous Prado was manual, I upgraded to a 2008 120 series only a few weeks ago. I am assuming I don't have traction or stability control because I don't see any button marked as such (VSC/TRC). I think I saw this button in the Grande I test drove. However if this is a fixed feature that doesn't have to be activated by a 'button' in the GLX, I may indeed have it??? I see a light in the dash marked TRC OFF, so where is the on button??
In a whiney QLD feminine voice, 'please explain', the new boy is confused
If it has down hill assist then i reckon it would have traction and stability, not sure on the 120 as I dont have any of it on mine but with my 95 grande when I hit the centre diff lock button the stability control light lit up on dash telling me it was deactivated, Im sure the traction control is the same as the 95 grande I had where as you cant turn it off only by pulling the fuse which will cause issues with other things so Im told (never needed to in my 95). I reckon if you hit the centre diff lock button you maye see a little light come up on dash indicating you do have stability which in turn means you have traction control as well.. ?? Cheers Steve
OH that's good news then, I did as you said and the same lights came on for me, woo hoo. I checked the manual and I think I 'assumed' incorrectly that it needed an ON button for TRC. The salesman said it didn't have traction control, and it's not listed in the sales brochure as a 'feature' (DAC is listed), so I think he was confused too then?
That being the case, it appears I do have it, which is added value for me because I thought I didn't have it for the last few weeks
Perhaps I do have the fancy bits I wanted after all.
Bloody Autos, confuse the shit outa an old school 4x4er like myself.
PS I saw a Pradopoint sticker on another Prado the other day and followed the links so to speak, now I know what it was all about
I tried my stability control out by coming into a bend here where I live (only 35/40k) right hand bend and off camber as well and gave it some stick and it just started to drift sideways and you could feel the powerd drop off and the light flash up on dash board for stability, dont get confused with traction, that will be a different light again. You can test the traction easy enough to, I did it by stopped at lights and was turning a sharp left but it was a slight hill as well, lights changed and I burried it to the floor and the traction light flicked on indicating which wheel it was (which was left front) and again the power dropped off till it gained traction again. Good you have it, maybe you got it cheaper as they didnt know it had it ?? Who knows...........Cheers Steve
There is no traction control on/off button. The stability control goes off when you lock the centre diff. So find some dirt or gravel road and lock the centre diff and the VSC off should illuminate as well as the icon showing the centre diff is locked.
