  • Are 2008 GXL Auto D4Ds really worth $40,000+?

I'm about to sell my 2008 GXL Diesel. This is not an advert to sell it on Pradopoint, just a query on where people think it should be priced.

I see adverts in carsales.com.au where all the 2008 are listed $40,000-$50,000 with well over 100,000km on the clock - mine is just about to click through this number. Does anyone know if this is realistic? Between you, me and the rest of the web I'm looking for a little less but if I list it under $40k will the crash the market for the rest of them ? I'm not greedy, just want to get it out of the shed when the new one arrives.

Mine was valued at my last service, which coincided with the end of my 3year lease. Toyota valued it around $43k. Was VERY close to selling it, but then I would be driving a work supplied Falcoooon... Not ideal.. So re leased the Prado for another 3...

2008 was a good vintage, option pack 1 makes them even more desirable. I'd roll mine over to a 150 but I don't want to downgrade

        Hi Whiteman,

Yeah, this model seem to be holding their value, but are they selling at that price? I hope so, because I have mine listed, though yet to take a single inquiry after 1 week of advertising. Like you, I was quite surprised by the optimism on carsales. To help get a more balanced view, I also sent my details to Pickles who provided a reserve price if they auctioned the car. Their reserve price was just about the price I was expecting, except they take a ~$1300 fee. So I took the Pickles reserve price as a minimum that I would accept from carsales.

        Hope that helps.

I got more than that for easily, had a lot of calls and people come to see it. Mine had less than 60k on it though and had a bit of kit on it.

Interesting stuff - thanks. I doubt whether I'll ask more than $40k even though it has the usual extras and is in great condition.

It is easier to go down in price, but hard to go up. Always start high...
Ask a ridiculous price, you may be surprised...

As noted before, these are very popular, hence the retained value..

Just my 2c on the topic......A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it at that moment in time.

I've found in the past that Redbook is pretty spot on for Trade In Values with Dealers, and private buyers do look at this.
It has this model Prado valued for Private Sale at between $41,500 to $45,700 for vehicles with 60,000 to 100,000klms on the clock.
Obviously if your car is in good nic and approaching the 100,000klms mark then $41,500 would be a good indicator, plus any accessories fitted the seller may feel could add or subtract to the final price.
This price is only a suggestion and will depend on conditon and accessories.

                    cheers

Well, I hope so, I just paid 52,000 for my 60,000km 2008 GLX Auto, with Prado Pack.

Having a 90 series Prado for 7 years, I was willing pay for new model one in good nick, 90 series lasted me a long time, great vehicles.

The 120 series is sweet so far, no complaints.

My research at the time (xmas) told me I was paying about the right figure for a well kept Toyota dealer sale. Sure private would be cheaper, but ya get peace of mind from a dealer. Especially when the dealer was the same one that sold me my last 90 Prado and they looked after me REAL well with some bits I needed fixed.

Repeat business does happen to those who look after you.

For the few cars I sold privately I always found Redbook and the average advertised price on Carsales to be very optimistic. Getting no inquiries is a good indicator. I sold my 2004 gxl manual in 2008 for 30k. I paid 50k new so not too bad with 100k on the clock. Sometimes I feel it may have been a bit too cheap though. You only need one buyer in the end. I also found that the individuals who ask you the most questions and start haggling without having seen the car usually dont end up buying it. 40k for a 2008 model is a lot of money in my opinion.
