  • Rust in second battery well.

Just removed second battery, driver's side behind h/light to get at the duckbill grommet. Battery was only installed a couple of months ago and well underneath is starting to rust. It was caused by beach sand building up and staying wet. Before the installation it was no problem as the sand would dry out and just needed a blow out. It would be a good idea to blast the gerni or compressed air in there after any beach driving.

    Cheers Jim

Shit Jim doesnt take much does it eh, especially the way you look after your car. I spend half a day when I get home from stockton spraying the hose in every nook and cranny I can see and find. The one alot of people forgot about on the 90's is the bar that runs across the top of the rear diff from one side of the vehicle to the other (you can see right through it), its a big trap for sand and inside the front guards. I have noticed on my 120 when you open the doors and look into the guard there is like a bit of rubber or some thing at the botttom on both sides have you found any getting trapped in there ?? I havnt had the 120 on the sand yet not not sure of the hidey holes yet and mine is V6 but im sure I still have that plate/spot for second battery in mine just covered with some other crap for the V6. Will have to check it out of interest.Cheers Steve

Haven't seen any Steve, the karcher gets well used in all the nooks and crannies. Might see if they do a right angle nozzle for mine as I'm getting too old to crawl under the car. I know some people use a garden sprinkler but better to get the mud and sand off for sure. Not sure of the water restriction legalities around here but I don't have a front lawn anyway. The 2 pad couplertech isn't that flash obviously. Just gave the well area a good clean and paint job with white killrust enamel.

      Cheers Jim

Must say Jim I dont use my high pressure washer to get sand off as I think with the extra sharp pressure it has its more ikely to punch the sand into seal and things where as the hose with just the normal nozzle on the end seems to do a better job and especially around the motor where I dont water into the connections if I can avoid it. I use to do the sprinkler/soaker hose on the old lux, it use to soften the mud up but in the end I still had to use a higher pressure to get rid of the mud. I try and just keep the use of the gernie around under the guards/body/wheels/side steps etc but not in the engine bay or around back of gearbox/transfer etc just used degreaser and a hose for that
the old lux getting a soaking

Mostly use the $2 cans from supercheap when there on special or the I think its called ct 10 ?? Yeah not sure on that rust protection system you have ?? maybe send them some pics/email with a nice question how their system works ?? Cheers Steve
