  • Prado GX - flares

hi does any one where i could get flared guards for my prado. do they have after market or do i have to get factory ones? Regards Rob

dont know of any aftermarket ones im afraid. You will have to get the wider alloy wheels with the flares too and change the front and rear bumpers if you want a GXL lookalike

Hi Rob, TJM and ARB can both supply these, but based on my experience I wouldn't recommend that you do it. I got some fitted to a GX, supplied by ARB and the fit quality was really bad. So bad in fact that the ARB manager agreed that they were sub-standard and we had them removed and the doors repaired, at their expense (they drill holes in the rear doors to install). ARB said that they would never fit these to a GX again. If it's about putting on bigger tyres, suggest you get some Toyota GXL steel wheels and fit some 245's on. They work a treat. Good luck. Boyce

Hi Boyce and thanks for the reply. please could you tell me in what way did the flares not fit properly? I found a place in Queensland that make them. The place is Fibeglass replacement panels. They have sent me a number of photos of the guards on a GX prado and they look really nice. was the fit not a very good oe on your car? please could you tell me anything else regards the panels.

        regards Rob

Hi Rob, the flares, which were sourced from somewhere in Sydney I think, stuck out from the body of the car, especially the front guards, nothing like the appearance of the GXL flares. They looked really bad I've also seen the images from the fibreglass replacement panel and they look ok from a distance, but I think it's better to see a car in the flesh to really determine how they fit and whether they will give you the result you want. Best of luck, Boyce

I put bushranger flexi flares on my GX they have been on there for 3 years now no sag they have kept the shape and IMOP they
look alright too . They are a bit of a bugger to fit mainly on the front due to lack of a metal lip on the front guards. I run the
later model GX steel wheels with 265 BFG and i get no stone chips on the side and its done plenty of work high country ,cape
                etc

                  GX flares

I also put bushranger flexi flares on my GX , they have been on 4+ years now , look good, I have 17x8 rims with 265/70/17 tyres and have no problems with stone chips. The wheels are level with the flares (30mm) wide rubber with a steel wire inside to keep their shape.
