  • Pricing for 120 Grande

    Hi all,

I've come across a 2009 Grande D4D with 25,000kms on the clock and in very good condition for $56k. Is that a reasonable price for a Grande? I'm trying to justify 50 odd thousand for a 3 year old vehicle vs $60k-$61k for a new 150 GXL.

My knowledge of the 120 series second hand is fairly limited so any opinions are welcome!

A workmate sold his 2007 Grande with 17K on the clock last year for $53k...

Do you want all the Grande fruit? Leather seats, airbag suspension, sunroof etc etc, if none of these things are stuff you want then its expensive, go the new zero klm GXL. If however you really like the extra bits and pieces then its probably not unreasonable given the low K's.

Personally I wouldn't have a grande, none of the bells and whistles do a thing for me; with the possible exception of the abilty to select low range without locking the centre diff.

      Cheers Andrew

If the commoners don't want a Grande, let them eat cake.

I love my grande, but it is my first and last. The moonroof, extra switches, leather etc are all nice, but an Altitude makes more sense to me.

My pet hate is the rear airbags, makes it harder to modify.

Love the airbags. Don't drag your butt on the ground no matter how much you load it up. And you can raise and lower the rear at the push of a button. Airbag spacers have now sorted the airbag dislodging issue

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think a 120 series GXL is the way to go. Can't justify $60k for a vehicle that will be going straight to the outback as a touring vehicle.

Go for the 120, bigger fuel tank, more boot space - rear seats pop out rather than fold under, and Grande has center console fridge, a nice useful luxury, sunfoof good for expelling heat on hot days and it looks better than the 150. cheers

Yep go the 120 GXL you will be more than happy. To be honest whilst the leather and moonroof sounded like what i wanted i got a 2009 GXL D4D this year and have been more than happy.
Leather is only any good if you aren't using seat covers and if you are going outback I'd be getting good seat covers and floor mats to protect the interior.
Sunroof? Really? Most people I know who have them never use them and to be honest its only going to be something else to fix at some point.
The GXL has plenty of gear standard and I am stoked with mine.

Cheers for the feedback fellas. Out of interest, was there any difference between the 2008 and 2009 models, GXL particularly?

Nothing that I am aware of.

I wouldn't worry about spending the extra on the fancy traction aids, if a GXL isn't quite up to your expectations use the cash saved to throw in a rear locker and you will go just about anywhere.

                        Cheers Andrew

I have GXL but 05 mod so there is a difference to the 08/09 mods the first been dual climate air, the wiring is there I believe for a reverse camera, roof rails standard, blue tooth, steering wheel controls this is just the GXL was more changes on this then the VX or the Grande. I had traction control and stability control which I really do miss on the GXL (which is as mentioned available as an option pack) I have now compared to my 90 Grande where it had it all, BUT as AJ has said a rear locker or both will certainly get you out of trouble. The VX has all traction control etc but with out the sunroof, fridge, rear air bag suspension, leather, and the dash lighting is different (forget what its called) but I really do love the Grande instrumentation. I did come across 05/07 grande's with rust around the sunroof panel itself (not the actual roof of the vehicle) but may have just been the ones I looked at as there are plenty of owners on here with out any issues. I personally don't like leather and find it slippery in off road conditions especially steep stuff but that's personal preference but is good for wiping up spills from kids lol. Personally I would outlay the few extra $$ and get the 150 GXL if you can afford it but again my opinion I cant afford a 150 not now the wife has just signed up for a $100 thou extension on the house. I love the 120 and would have to say its the best 4wd I have owned, comfortable, smooth, quit, love the 180L fuel tanks (V6 need it lol) so in diesel will give you fantastic range. At the end of the day its what you like. Maybe drive both and see if you would outlay the extra $$ for a 150 or you would be happy enough with the 120 ?? Don't see why you wouldn't be happy with a 120 Grande.....Decisions Decisions lol......Cheers Steve

The 08 models have the dual zone climate control in the GXL.
