    still with the issue

I accessed the wiring connector above the fuel tank under the rear seat but all was clean and intact. I removed the dash instrument cluster and heck the wiring there but is was also intact. I think I have covered the "Easy Fixes".
I am thinking of opening the screw cap port on top of the tank to see what is under that and whether that is where the problem lies.
Let me know if you find a cure, I am planning to take it all apart one of these days, but have not had the courage yet.

Ok I have finally decided to look seriously into the problem, bought a pump to drain the tanks etc, but when I took off the cover on top of the main fuel tank under the rear seat, I have found what one of the wires have corroded away and the other was half way gone. So same problem as Skip.
I have tried to fix this, but my soldering skills are pretty crappy, however after I made some provisional connections and fuel gage works now, so this was the problem. Now I need to get another plug somewhere which I could splice into the existing harness. Any ideas where could I get it?

I have a variation of this problem on my V6 petrol viz difficulty with filling the tank. The last few fills gave me 12 l/100k,21 l/100 k and 12 l/100k. Ok the mid point is around 15 l/100 which is what I expect with where it is driven. This is with a lot of shaking etc to try and squeeze the last few litres in. The question is why is it not filling completely as it has done for years. Any clues as to where to look or better, how to fix it? Neil

Could try a wreckers and see if they have a written off prado and see if you could get part of the harness. Im not to sure you can get replacement plugs but you might be able to.

edit: just found this in my service manual.

my 09 petrol works great and is very reliable, but have noticed a couple times recently then you throw a long steep hill at it, it can go from 1/2 full on primary tank to 3/4 full on green tank as soon as you level out. I just put it down to levelling between tanks, maybe a one way valve wont let it level back.

I have this prob with my Grande and found it confusing & thought the fuel gauge was faulty. Now after reading this thread I now know it’s normal. After filling both tanks, and using the reserve fuel to the point where it switches over to the last 90L, the fuel gauge goes down to halfway, then goes back up to full with the green 90L light on. At first I thought it was a stupid way of doing it, but now see why Toyota decided to do that. Having the Grande, I rely heavily on the distance of fuel remaining display above the dash to know exactly how many km’s of fuel I have remaining.
