Just wonder if they changed the composition somewhere along the way. Hope so.

I have just become the owner of a 05 VX. So far the dash is ok. Is there any preventative or is it inevitable?

For info - my 2007 D4D Grande dash has a 5cm crack on drivers side from corner of air vent forward.

Toyota Extra Care have approved dash pad replacement under warranty (which expires in 2 weeks).

So that adds the 2007 variety, I can't see them having changed the composition during the production run unless this was picked up very early on. So my guess is that we are all at risk here.

You'd think with all these cracked dash's getting replaced there would be plenty available but I can't find one!

You'd think Toyota would have stopped playing silly buggers by now. The problem has been around for years and looks like being around for a few more years.
I replaced one after hassling Toyota with the CTTT and I have the guys name in Sydney's head office, so if my '08 goes bad he will be getting a direct phone call.

I noticed a small crack last year on my '05, near the right air vent. Now they are spreading.

Hi bbuzz... My 04 120 has cracks as well and have been informed by Toyota today to go away they don't want to know about it as the vehicle is out of warranty. Interference to CTTT who are they and what can they do to help ????

Hi Bill ... My 04 120 has the same issue I received today from Toyota a phone call telling me that my vehicle no longer comes under warranty therefore I have no claim. In reference to the CTTT who are they and what can they do to help in cases like this?????

So this may be a pipe dream but in the "import and show car scene" there is a common thing of people retriming the dash in say velour. Can this be done with cars and air bags? I knw ive seen new GTR's with a custom dash so I figure yes.

I've been wondering the same thing, perhaps like a new layer of vinyl/leather. I saw online a prado overseas with a retrimmed dash in leather. Looked good.

I also got a "Rejected" decision from Toyota on my 2003 GLX with just over 100K on the clock, because I am not the "original owner" ???

Anyways, has anyone actualy replaced the dash assembly themselves ? I am considering going out and ordering a brand new dash from Toyota and fitting it myself.

I believe Davros has replaced the dash on a customer's Prado.
