The standard plastic guards do not cover everything unfortunately and I've been thinking of throwing in some extra clark rubber pieces to prevent mud/dirt getting into the engine bay, anyone done this before? Photos?

Considering all of my guards have ripped off, this is one job I need to do. Is there any grade of rubber that is better than another??

Just get some thin insertion rubber from Clark rubber and make your own and tie them on with Cable ties. You can even make them a better fit to keep the crap out than the originals..

Made mine up from Clark's still on the car works a treat, I suggest cables are the go, had a few plugs drop out as the rubber is heavier. Keep plugs on the lower holes but cable top ones...

Yep, did mine one night last week. Did it a couple months earlier with the 3mm insertion rubber but it tore through so I 'stitched' it a bit better with more zip ties this time.

                    Front Inner Guard Liners

                    Hello,

This is my first post here so please be patient with me

We bought our very first 2003 Prado GXL last week and as part of the RWC the mechanic pointed out both front inner guard liners are missing on the car.
My understanding is that those inner guard liners don't really have much of a function except maybe catching the odd rock or similar from hitting the engine block from below.

I read somewhere that they might also protect the air inlet from taking in water when driving in really wet conditions. I believe a snorkel was suggested as better alternative to purchasing those liners.

So I guess my question is whether I really need to spend the $300 I got quoted for two pieces of expensive plastic.

                    Any thoughts?

                    Thanks!

                    Mike

I think you are talking about the guard liners that follows the wheel arch. They are very useful as they stop water entering the air intake (driver's side) as well as prevent stones sandblasting the inner guard which is metal.
