Weird air-con problem 120 Prado.

Hello all,

I did a search but found nothing similar...

Asking this question on behalf of my next door neighbour:
He has a petrol 120 series prado and the right side aircon comes out nice and cold but the passenger side feels warm.
He's had the glove box out hoping to find an old chip packet or similar blocking a vent but has found nothing obvious.
It hasn't got dual zones. I think it's a GXL.

Can someone please help out with a solution.

I had this same problem and it turned out that there was a slow leak in the a/c and there just was not enough gas in the system. After a regas it fixed the problem and the mechanic couldn't find a leak. 12 months later the same thing happened. I took it elsewhere and they found a hairline crack on a pipe so after a little weld and regas it is still going strong 6 months later. Only time will tell...

I have a 2006 model. Your thread made me smile, I know exactly what you mean about the AC not cold passenger side. I pulled the dash half out no luck. Gave up went to my mechanic. Yep gas gone, one of my pipes cracked. So you have the same problem. Find the leak re gas, and this will fix your problem. Mine cost $500 but did full service on condenser and all the bits and pieces. Now its GREAT!!!!
