The cruise control on my vehicle works fine when switched on and speed set however, if cruise control is enabled but not engaged after a short time the cruise dashlight will start flashing. While this is happening cruise control is completely unresponsive until it is switched off then restarted and reset. Any thoughts?

First time I've heard this. Might need to plug the scanner in and check for codes. -
My work hilux did the same thing. Sorry but can't help with the cause as it was fixed under Toyota warranty.

I spoke to the dealer today and they said It was a faulty brake pedal or brake light switch. Can't help with to much more sorryComment

The owners manual has a piece on this which tells you to turn the cruise on and off to cure this but my money is a brake/clutch(if manual) switch issue. Or brake light bulbs!

An update for future reference. I replaced the brake switch, a very simple and inexpensive job. This appears to have cured the cruise control problem. The VSC and ABS lights on the dash have been coming on intermittently. This appears to have stopped and, for some time I have been having a pulsing effect when braking. I replaced the brake rotors and still had the problem. That has disappeared too. It's like having a different truck.Comment

If your speed drops below 40km/hour, Cruise control will reset and you will need to set speed again.
