Steering wobble at high speed

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had this issue,
I get a wobble at 100-110 kph. I have had the wheels balanced and my mechanic has said the wheel bearings are fine.
Is there any known issues with prado 120 steering rack that could cause this?

Are the tyres out of round? How worn are the tyres? Muddies? Brand, model?

The tyres are 95% worn and prob only have about 10k to go. I only bought the car 12k kms ago and has always had this issue. The tyre are Dunlop AT20

1. did they measure road force variation when they balanced? or just a standard balance which may not have picked it up.
2. was it a full 4 wheel alignment and not just a toe and go.. at low speed it will feel fine but at speed you will feel it a wobble if not aligned correctly.
3. we have had some cars do this (Nissan patrols etc) when steering dampers go

3. but my money will be on the tyres being out of round.. this may be confirmed by proper road force variation measurement by balancing..

AT20's at 95% worn... say no more..

Most only get 30-50k out of AT20's..

Replace tyres, have them balanced properly and see how you go..

Had a worn front drive shaft bearing which gave the same problem as unbalanced tyres on a 120.
I would have the front drive shafts checked first.

I only bought the car 12k kms ago and has always had this issue.

A sure bet is that if you have locking wheel nuts (Anti theft nuts) that will be the problemo as they are usually heavier than the standard nut and throw the wheel off balance!

Some places can ballance wheel on the car and counter balance the locking wheel nut or put the nut opposite to the Tyre valve!

I reckon your tyres are screwed as above, out of round. Ive had all those bullshit gold/silver balances done on prior cars by Bob Jane and then had the normal balance done on the same vehicles when replacing tyres and never found the gold or silver to be any better. I no longer get those balances. I just get the regular ones and never had any issues with the balance. I have had the original grand trecks go out of round when I first bought this 120 I have now. The tyres were pretty screwed (feathered on the front edges) so I replaced them with some low klm grandtrecks from some here on PP who was changing their tyres to A/T's, the slight vibration I had and could feel was gone. Ive since replaced with the Bridgestone 697's A/T's no vibration issues.... Id be spending my $$$ on new tyres then if still there chase it further but Ill bet my $$ on the tyres...Cheers Steve

Thanks for your input everyone. Since my tyre's are 95% worn I think I will go down that path and get a new set.
I'll see how that goes.

could also be a wheel bearing or possibly a bush from underneath somewhere
