Reverse camera position

Hi guys,

Thinking of getting a reverse camera installed. I mainly want to use it when i reverse to hitch the trailer. The spot where most installs are done under the license plate, does that have a good view of the tow bar from there?

What camera do you recommend?

Where do you recommend to install it?

Under license plate is where ours is and you can see the tow hitch fine.

Check the clearance behind the bumper before putting a camera directly above the towbar.

Mine is at the usual license plate location. Just have to get used to lining up to the trailer slightly offset because the camera is off the centreline.

My ladies rav 4 has a camera above the plate, quite a way off centre, it's completely useless for lining anything up! Car almost ends up on a 45 haha.

I must admit it is a little tricky lining up the trailer exactly but I usually get it close enough then just do the rest manually but I only use a box trailer.

I mounted mine on the spare wheel carrier and image goes to my rearview mirror.
I mage is great during the day almost 180deg, and best i've seen at night.

Bought it from Supercheap for about $74 on a 25% discount.

How do you go hitching up the van? Is it tricky being off centre?

Mine is a mounted on the rear bumper dead centre above the tow ball and works a treat. It feeds into the av input on my Navman and pops up about 2 seconds after revers is engaged.

I put an aftermarket one on so I can reverse and hitch up the van myself. I adjust it depending if I am reversing onto the van or reversing normally

How did you wire that? Does the signal itself override the Navman GPS? That's exactly what I was hoping to do. (but perhaps later with a camera up front for difficult terrain.

I have the 120 Grande, with camera just above number plate. Perfect position, I can with lowered suspension, back the ball right under the coupling, raise suspension and couple on. Unfortunately I need to get out of car the connect safety chain and power lead. And also tighten coupling to ball. Paul

I made up a small stainless steel plate and mounted mine directly above the tow hitch so its nice and centered

Can anyone tell me how to run the wire through the rear door to attach to the spare wheel?

I understand amts no longer sells a bolt with a hole.
