Re: What does this thing do?

Ha ha! Thanks TP - only joking - I sent you some stamps last month so hopefully my PP sticker in the mailbox this week! Must affix sticker before back window gets covered with mud and crap... still less than 200 km on the clock but already had to wash the bugs off the windscreen...

    Cheers, longdog

I haven't been able to find a topic similar to this so I hope it's not a duplication. We'll need to post photos and specify the model and where the item is located. For example - what does this thing do? -

I have a 2008 Auto GXL Deisel. This object is located on top of the dash directly in front of the driver (drives me crazy that I see it everytime I'm driving the car but don't know what it is). I think it might be a sensor of some kind but not sure what it does or whether it's active for my model.
I was told when I bought my prado that the thing you're talking about is the Thermometer for inside the car.

I did try pushing it today just in case MickL did get it right. It doesn't cause the passenger to eject but it does make them turn their head towards you with a curious look on their face. I tried it a couple of times, and yep, they turned their head towards me loooking at me like I was stupid every time.  So it's a Climate Control sensor and a passenger head turning device.

Re: What does this thing do?

Sorry, me again, I said I was curious. I was tasking pictures for the Build Up topic so I thought I'd take a photo of another "thing" that I don't know what it does. This is positioned in front of my radiator and looks very vunerable to damage. It appears as though the pipe ends up in the cabin through the firewall. Only thing I can think of is hot water for the heater but it seems like a small pipe? It looks really exposed. 2008 D4D Auto GXL

Re: What does this thing do?

Thats an airconditioning gas line (with pressure switch in view) it runs to the condenser located in front of the radiator (it in fact looks like a thin radiator)

Re: What does this thing do?

Yeah I've noticed that aircon line as well being stuck out in no mans land. The dealer did tell me that when the Prado's come to OZ they all come without airconditioning and are fitted up with aircon for OZ conditions (beefier) when they arrive. Did anyone else get told this? Just seems odd to have it stuck out there like an afterthought.

Re: What does this thing do?

If you got the Sovereign bullbar then you should get the bash plate between the radiator and b/b. With the ARB b/b it comes with this bash plate which protects the bits n pieces in the front incl aircon line from any damage.

True and not just Prados... I'm not 100% sure why but is seems to happen no matter what make or model.

I notice the pipe in the picture is insulated.. on my Prado it's not :?:

Dustie ~ do you have a photo of this you can post? I have the sovereign b/bar, but it doesn't have a bast plate? Can you also advise its part number and cost if you have to order it separately?

I'm guessing you guys have the rear aircon fitted :?: Hence the thermo fan (not on TD with front only AC) and insulated pipes too (can't quite see the point of insulating this line though)

Yep, rear A/C. The pipe has rubber on the front section as shown but as it goes into the engine bay there's a combination of black paint, bits of rubber, bare pipe, bits of plastic covering, depending on what part of the engine it passes. Quite complicated really.

On the Grande that pipe goes out like that to miss the Power steering cooler (mini radiator) thats why it is out so far to avoid heat soak.

Once you fit an ARB bar and winch it is nice and snug against the back of the winch Looks good then.
