Re: What does this thing do?

Looks like a siren for an aftermarket alarm system, the key turns it on or off.

This is the one I see most often and wonder about. Is it standard or aftermarket? My first guess is some sort of immobilizer as it has a key hole - I don't think I have any key for it though...any ideas?
It's situated in the dual battery space on the Drivers side.

Hang on, just checked my spare keys and I do have some which look like they'll fit...I'll try once it's back from the mechanics.
        Thanks guys!

Update: One great alarm system working Toyota never told me about that when I bought it! Thanks for your help!

Re: What does this thing do?

I managed to tear off most of an underbody guard (term used lightly) on my 120. There is only a small piece left (photos below). It covers the driveshaft through to the transmission housing and appears to be made of fibreglass? Does anyone know the name of this thing (and maybe a part number)?

lol, and with typical toyota efficiency it even tears itself off, saving the need to stop the car and having to do it yourself.

Yep. Need to know the name of it so I can ask for the part. Asking the parts folks for "the fibreglass thingy under the car" doesn't sound cool. The mud in the photo under the car is Brisbane River flood mud by the way not "fun mud".

It might pay to ask in the wanted section here, anyone who has replaced the gaurd with a full steel bashplate may have one to spare.

As for what its called, a complete waste of time i think its its correct name

                    Cheers Andrew

I think you will find that the button on the dash is the GPS receiver. It is there so it has a vertical line of sight.

Hope that helps solve a mystery.

Also the rubber on the aircon hose is to provide insulation and reduce condensation on the lines.

                          Cheers

FlyingBushPig... You will find that the alarm was always working... all the kay will do is silence the siren. So if for some reason the siren is going off and wont stop (happens when you disconnect the battery) you can turn the key and shut the siren up. Mainly used by mechanics etc but comes in handy at different times. Trust me!
