  • Headlights going Yellowish?

    HI guys.

Just checking to see if anyone else has had the same problem? My headlights are going yellow/brownish up at the tops towards to bonnet etc.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so how did you fix it? Will buffing make them look like new again or do more damage?

    Cheers
    Oscar

A light cut & polish will do the job, or try toothpaste.

Sadly that is Ultra Violet damage.
It will continue to get worse. You can cut and polish but it will never be as clear as new ones. I would suggest writing to Toyota to see why the UV coating has failed?
Some globes can do the same but the damage on sky facing parts is from the sun.

if you have upgraded your head lights to a higher voltage the lens will turn yellow !! check that they are the right globes there are some globes that shouldn't be used

            Hi
if anyone is interested i had the same issue, solution is to use mothers plastic polish, about $18.00 a bottle. Follow directions and headlights came up like brand new.
Also removed scratches on the instrument clock lens and speedo lens. well reccomended product.

            Regards

I was told never to polish the polycarb lenses because this removes the protective coating. Apparently the polycarb will go dull again a lot quicker after a polish.

Have you guys found this to be the case after using the polishing products like Meguiars?

I used Meguiar's X Scratch 2.0 and yes you will need to put a protect polish on the polycarb to protect it after or you can buy the Headlight Restoration kit.

I decided to google "UVspray" and found this product. Has anyone used this or similar? Lights on the commodore fade as well.

I have done my drivers light about 3 times now with different products over the last 2 years. It looks great for a few months then goes back to yellow.

I think the only way to really fix it is buy a new one unfortunately.

You can have them polished and then a UV seal put back on them, But its not the cheapest I've heard.

The amount of money I have spent on kits, I should have just bought a new headlight off ebay.

Mine had the exact same and bought a pair off eBay however I would suggest to buy genuine off eBay if you can as mine claimed to be OEM but non-genuine and needed shaving off the plastic to fit. It was worth spending the extra bucks for genuine ones if you can find. It's cheaper to learn from others experiences sometimes

Polish it with whatever you like (I use Mothers Mag Wheel Cleaner on a buffing pad/electric buffer), but then you MUST apply a UV resistant coat. Rustoleum 2X Clear Gloss from the Big Green Shed, apply in VERY light coats (and let dry between, DON'T let it run due heavy coat) until you have the desired gloss.
                              cheers
