  • Wiper blades again

    Hi all,

Can someone please confirm wiper sizes. I have read all the posts about the Bosch wiper blades and am intending to get some this week.

I just washed all of the mud off my Prado and had a good look at the blades. I have 6mm blades DRIVERS SIDE and 8mm passenger side. I would have thought the beefier blade would have been on the drivers side and the posts I have read say the 8mm is in fact on the drivers side???? Not on mine though. Why are they different anyway??

          Re: Wiper blades again

          Hi Steve.
I recently replaced my blades and bought them from Supercrap. They had a large variety of blades all with info on the back as to what vehicle they fitted. I think the sizes were 6.5 & 7.5mm according to the info and they needed cutting to length.
Cost around 11 bucks and do a good job..... not that we've had a lot of rain in Perth for me to test them!

I just replaced my wiper blades. Went into Super..... Auto. There's a catalogue in there for make/model/year etc so you can get the right blades. The staff were good though, confirmed I had the right blades and for an extra $2 cut them to length and fitted them to the vehicle right there in the parking lot. Good deal I thought!
            Cheers.

2$ is cheap and if they screw them up they can replace them...I would go for it.

The Bosch blades are great, have a fin across blade which forces wiper onto screen at higher speeds. Heaps better than originals.

                  John,

                  The fins work great.

The only problem I have with them is that they put too much force on the mechanism and cause it to wear too early. I hate sloppy wipers.

The bits between the motor and the blade. - All the joints seem to loosen up.

My experience was yrs ago on a Commodore and a Vauxhall, so perhaps Toyotas are built better. ??

Absolutely NO comparison, Comode and Vauxhall were both General Motors ??????????? (staying polite)

I went to SupaCheap on Friday to get them to replace the right hand blade for $2. Warning to all - the book of sizes they have is wrong as it stipulates 6.5mm width for the right blade and this should be 7.5mm as mentioned above.

Anyway, a very attractive young lass behing the counter said she is an expert fitter so we selected a blade (rubber+backing) that should fit - off comes the old in 2 seconds, on goes the new ..(yawn).. one hour and 2 more staff later the new blade wouldn't lock in over the arm hook. At this stage I've taken the original arm back in the shop and found the correct rubber (7.5mm) and replaced the old rubber as I'd had enough of waiting and perving. The little group found a 4th person from the back of the shop and he came over and said "it's upside down" and within 2 seconds the new arm was locked on. I then got them to take this off, got a refund and put the old arm back on with new rubber I'd done myself.

                          The blade works perfectly.

                            Re: Wiper blades again

I always make sure I buy wiper blades from a store that has a good turnover of stock just so they haven't gone hard.

I buy a packet of 8mm and a packet of 6mm plastic backed blades that you can cut to length. Each packet has 2 blades, so for about $20 you have a spare set for next time.

                            Cheers

                              Re: Wiper blades again

call me an idiot, but I just got so sick of noisy wiper blades. No matter what brand I bought, within a short period, I would get that annoying skating sound
So I have found these at Repco and thought I would give them a try...

Bit skeptical at first, at $70 a pair  , but let me tell you, after 2 weeks of rain everyday, the silence is bliss

Now to see how long they will last........
