  • Power steering fluid change

Changing the power steering fluid was pretty straight forward

    * Jack the front up / place on car stands / so that the front wheels are just off the ground /or to minimize resistance

    * Remove power steering reservoir cap and syringe the fluid out of the reservoir

    * Set up 8 mm clear tube to run to the waste container on the ground ( 1 m long is plenty )

    * Remove the small clamp on the small hose and carefully remove hose ( note plastic barb so don't be aggressive )

    * Insert the 8 mm tube into the small hose about a inch or so

    * Turn the key on ( but don't start it ) to unlock the steering wheel

    * Spin the wheel from left lock to right lock and the fluid will drain into the waste container and repeat etc till the fluid is drained ( APPROX 450 ML )

    * Replace the hose on the reservoir and replace the clamp

    * Top up with Power steering Fluid as Per the Spec. in the Owners Manual , REPLACE THE CAP

    * Start the engine and repeat the steering from lock to lock

    * STOP THE ENGINE and top up fluid each time it gets low , until normal level is maintained , Replacing the cap each time

    * Repeat , start , lock to lock , stop , top up and so on ...

NOTE THERE IS AIR NOW IN THE SYSTEM , IF YOU HOLD THE LOCK ON THE WHEEL YOUR WILL HEAR THE RELIEF LIFT BLEEDING THE AIR OUT AS YOU GO
IT ONLY TOOK THREE SIDE TO SIDE LOCKS ON MINE TO BLEED OUT AND GO BACK TO NORMAL , TOPPING UP TWICE AS ABOVE

    * I let it settle for a 5 min and started it and checked the steering lock to lock , and it was normal , check the small hose for leaks

    * Top up the reservoir as per the hot or cold level as required and pack up

    * check level after normal driving conditions as per normal .

All up it took about 30 minutes to change , and as you can see by the color of the old fluid it was due

Thanks for the procedure. Did the flush on the weekend.

However, after doing 2 full lock-to-lock turns, I made the mistake of turning on the engine with the tube still disconnected from the reservoir. Reservoir emptied in 1 sec flat! Anyway, reconnected the return line/tube, filled up the reservoir, lock-to-lock again until there was fluid back in the lines. Then restarted the engine and lock-to-lock again to bleed the air in the system and topped up the reservoir as needed.

Feels like dejavu. Same spot, same fluid.

When I recently did mine following an ATF flush, I had over a litre of Penrite ATF LV left over and used it in the power steering system.
Penrite state it is backwards compatible with DEXRON III as well as power steering systems requiring ATF.

FYI this part didn't work for me because the waste hose I had was too big to fit inside the small hose. the smaller reservoir connection is the return line and fluid will flow out of the disconnected rubber hose.

Once you remove the smaller hose from the reservoir, insert the hose directly into a waste container, no need for an extra waste line.
I used a 1.25L bottle to catch the fluid like this:
