  • Inputting video into Toyota SatNav 26028

Caution!! This is illegal........ The driver cannot be in view of a screen showing video whilst the car is in motion. The reasult of this will let driver view the video while the car is in motion. Moderator can remove this post if you think the content is not apporiate..

Finally got it going. Lots of muck around to get it to display video without using the reverse input. For those with Model 26028 there is 2 set of cables you need to modify to have it display video.

The first one is the blue connector which from factory is used to input the AUX sound. There is a resistor on that cable which tell the unit what kind of input it is. The one from the factory tell it is AUX. (Think factory is 50Ohm don't quote me on this.....). By changing the value of the resistor, the AUX will turn into VIDEO. I have not figured out the resistor value yet, but I found a cable with the resistor which works.

Once you get video instead of aux, here comes the next problem. The video screen is blank, which you need to modify another cable to ground one of the pins to have it displayed.

    Here is some pics.....

    ""
Here show the AUX input is now changed to VIDEO

    ""
You can even change aspect ratio on the video.

    ""

Here is what happens when you hit the audio button.

The screen shown is blank because I have not connected the IPOD to it. I tried it, it works wonderfully!

I post back once I work out what the resistor value is.
    Thanks

    Alan

Have you got any pictures of the wiring connections, and are you going to use an iPod as the video source??? Nice work.

I gonna use IPOD for the video. As for pic of the connection, you just need to splice the exisiting wire. But I have to work out the value of the resister when I get around to it. Did not take pic when I put it together..... I take it apart sometime later then I will take some more pic
      Thanks

I cut the original aux cable and saw a resistor there. Then it all started from that point onwards......Bit like Sherlock Holmes....lol
          Thanks

Since my last post & this one, I have done a bit more research on the DVD/GPS/Bluetooth/OzieplorerCE unit that I'm looking at. It also says that on the AV input it will auto detect if the optional Digital TV unit is plugged in. The only way I can see it doing that is using a similar system to what you have found.

            Cheers

Just thought I would bump this post. Have you got any pics etc of the wiring to modify, I'm interested to see if its the same on my older unit. Would love to do this mod myself.
What have you done for your sound input?

As far as I know all Navi unit have a blue 4 pin connector for the video input. It does not matter which model, I think they all have it. The four pins includes both audio and video. The other end of the cable is 3 normal RCA plugs.

The four pin connector is the same throughout all the models. The problem with older model the ground pin is different. I don't know which pin to ground for the video to be displayed.

The four pin cable is this one.. I can source them through my agent if you guys want.

                Thanks

Thanks Alan, that's great news. I'm sure there's a few of us that will be interested. Do you have an idea of cost on these cables?
I guess my next mission is to find the ground pin on mine.!

I go find out how much it is. It won't be very cheap. As the only shipping method my agent use is EMS. As for the ground pin gimme your Navi model number and see if I can track one down. The model number is located at the bottom right corner of the unit. Mine is 26028.
                    Thanks

Cable is $70USD with EMS shipping....fuzzy item never cheap.....btw that just what the agent charge me I make no profit.

Don't understand why don't yours have a number on it. It should be like what I said before.....Did you see the number on mine? Look at the pics I posted.

                          Hi siukalo and Justo,
If this cable will be suited to mine and many others on pradopoint maybe we can order in bulk.
I will also try to find out tommorow if anything has changed with sat/nav on those models yet to be delivered
                          Cheers Moto

Yes I've seen the number on later model units. Mine is a 2003 and I think they changed in late 04 to the updated unit.

Good idea mototrim, there's a chance Grandeman might be interested and there's probably a few others also.
